There's not much more I can add to the glowing reviews of this CD except to say that I'm surprised that "A un nino llorando" doesn't get a mention! It became my favorite on the album, even though the rest are excellent also.
"A Christmas Carol" is quite serene and nice, as well as "A Virgin Unspotted". Perfect! These guys are the musical male answer to Anonymous 4.

Being a huge Queen fan, I have tried to purchase all their CD's, including the solo albums. I was a little hesitant to buy this CD, mainly because I am not a big fan of opera. This CD is outstanding! The music is wonderful and the vocals superb. The title trac, along with "LaJaponaise", "Guide Me Home", and "How Can I Go On" are all favorites. I would recommend this CD to anyone, but fans of Queen and especially Freddie Mercury will be thrilled.

Mary Fahl's voice gets better with time no matter what side of time she's on. I've been a fan since her arrival with the group "October Project." Her lyric s are thoughtful and her alto voice, hauntingly beautiful.

Finally, this wonderful performance has been put on CD. I've been waiting a long time for this. I just about wore out my LP recording.
This is one of the best performances of Handel's masterpiece I have ever heard. The tempi on the choruses are refreshingly brisk and the execution of the melismas is clean and perfect. Of course this has always been a trademark of the Robert Shaw Chorale.
The comparison by Kris to chipmunks is absurd. Robert Shaw's choral expertise was brilliant. His tempi is perfect. Bravo!

Mike Birman's excellent review of this rare expressionist opera, several moths old already, was responsible for my ordering it. A few nights ago I finally watched it. His judgment of the music says everything I might want to say. The cinematography is another matter.

Of course, with Georg Solti conducting, I knew I was getting a production with some miles on its chassis. I knew it had to be a re-release or else a filming that had been kept in the vaults. A very imaginative version of the opera. It is well done and the contrast between the black and white scenes and the use of color towards the end were remarkable. It holds the viewers attention with singers who can also act. I viewed it with my 11 year old granddaughter and she was never bored and asked questions which made it evident she was captivated by the story. I recommend it for all ages.
