This collection of operas is a great introduction to opera and a great value for the price. Every title comes with the complete libretto and synopsis, too.
The production of Cosi Fan Tutte in this set launched my own love of opera. I think it's still hard to beat!

My kids absolutely love this. They could listen to it over and over. I like it as well. A great, fun way to learn to love classical music.

Being a Wagnerite is sometimes a little difficult. Wagner's music is demanding on practically all levels, and especially demanding to the casual listener. The music can sometimes be too sugary, way overblown, or deceptively muted. This can definitely present problems, and that is why there are those who can detest Wagner's works to the degree that others love it. There is little middle room: Love or hate, Wagner's music is unique...and difficult.
This CD brings out another difficulty: The attempt to tone down Wagner and make his work more generally acceptable. On the good side, this CD is a rather good compilation of some of the Ring's most important melodies. Its symphonic structure allows good flow between the rather disjoint ... Read More:

I bought the recording in the tape form years ago. I could not listen to it any more because of the wear after I played it too many times. Fortunately, technology came to the resue, CD!!!
The tenderness, emotion, range, and capacity, from a delicate note to a full blown key, Luciano Pavarotti's voice is from Heaven. No tenor recordings came close to the quality of singing of this one.
Joan Sutherland is the sweetest Liu that I have ever heard. Better still, the voices of the two, Joan Sutherland and Luciano Pvarotti, were the best combination ever. Add to this, we get Montserrat Caballe as the princess.

This is absolutely my favorite CD that we bought for our baby! We've bought quite a few classical-music-for-baby compilations, and this is far and away the best. The music is fun, flirty, stimulating, sweet, and beautifully performed. It's not syrupy, dumbed-down, or played on electronic instruments like some of those other compilations. We listen to it all the time. I now buy this as a baby shower gift for everyone I know!

It makes me happy that I can hear what Phillip Glass heared when he composed the music, there are feelings of mystery and nostalgy.

What tenorfanatic would not be enthusiastic about Placido Domingo, the epitome of great tenor singing for nearly half a century! On this recording, he wanders away from his usual opera arias and Spanish songs, to perform some "popular" music; and he does so beautifully.
This recording was given to me by a friend, along with the sheet music for "To Love," because she wanted me to sing it. I have never performed it; but I certainly enjoy singing it at home. "To Love," naturally I suppose, remains my favorite song on the recording. But, who would fault "Perhaps Love," and its blending of voices with--of all people--John Denver? Other specials for me include "Annie's Song" and "Yesterday"--yes, an opera star singing Beatles music!
Usually, I do not notice ... Read More:

This is music for babies, or for children, the people at Baby Einstein understand that little ears have trouble discerning multiple sounds. If you had wanted a classical music CD those are already available. But your baby needs a simple CD with only 1 or 2 instruments. It's not about whether YOU like the CD, but whether your child likes it.
Release Date August 29, 2000
I'll keep it simple: this album is a collection of classical music belonging to a category commonly referred to as the fanfare. Several pieces were written by the conductor, John Williams, who is famous for movie themes like Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, Memoirs of a Geisha, and many others. It is majestic, inspiring, and beautiful. I have shared it with several friends and they all agree. This music stirs the soul and lifts the heart.
