"Greatest hits" collections, especially of an artist as prolific as Judy Collins, are risky things. This is particularly true in her case since her style has varied so much with the years. Still, this compilation includes most of what I regard as the high points among her many albums, and several iconic tracks: I would certainly place her versions of Pete Seeger's "Turn, Turn, Turn," Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne," and Ian Tyson's "Someday Soon" in this category. I have been a Elvis fan since 1962 and have seen RCA make one blunder after another and this collection is no exception. When I first saw the song selection, my immediate reaction was this is definitely not complete. No where to be found is take after take of the production numbers. Elvis was a perfectionist and as usual did take after take to get it right. I bought the set anyway because I buy anything RCA puts out. I am that devoted of a fan. When I listen to disc 1, I thought to myself that the original album probably left off "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child" due to limited space on a record but there is more than enough space on a CD. To call it "complete" there should be nothing in the TV special that is not included on the CD.

I was a major Moody Blues fan back in the era of this release. I owned every one of their albums on vinyl. I saw them in concert around 1970 and they were amazingly good live considering the amount of "studio" they always put into their work. I recently went back and purchased "Threshold" and "Lost Chord". The vocals and arrangements hold up pretty well and these guys were good players. However, some of the lyrics almost seem hokey and hard to take seriously (I really took this stuff seriously as a young kid). The poetic input is almost comical at times, but does help to frame the thematic nature of the album. Personally, I always liked "Threshold" the best with it's airy feel. Top tracks are "Lovely to See You", "Never Comes The Day" and "Are You Sitting Comfortably". ... Read More:

A thousand reviews? I only can echo the majority. This is simply another masterpiece from the greatest band that ever cut a record. These four were in a class by themselves. The Beatles and then there were all the others. Abbey Road blew everyone away when it came out and still is an experience and not just a set of songs put together for listening to while you run the vacumn cleaner. I always think of some of the assertions that have been made about Shakespeare when I take in the entire catlog of the Beatles. It seems impossible that one small rock combo could come together and create art the way they did the same way that so many people can't imagine one person writing as many classics as Shakespeare did. Well, I give 5 stars ONLY and ONLY for Free as a Bird, which stands along with Dear Prudence, Come Together and other great masterpieces... it is just amazing how they managed to create such a great song having just an old tape with Lennon singing!... Also Leave My Kitten Alone deserves some attention... surprising it wasn't on Please Please Me or With THe Beatles... the problem is that without these two songs the Anthology isn't worth a penny, for it is a compilation of early performances, some of them even featuring Pete Best, so if you feel like spending 30$ on some history, go ahead, for those who expect something new and of good quality, better find Free as a bird single and you wouldn't be dissapointed...
