Dusty in Memphis has a timeless quality to it that is the mark of an album/cd that has become a classic. As evidenced by Shelby Lynn's recent homage to it the material remains fresh and undated. Dusty is in fine vocal form on these selections and the vaunted Memphis rhythm section does her proud. The addition of the numerous additional songs on this extended package make it a must have. I just sent this cd as a gift to a friend who had bought the Shelby Lynn but didn't own Dusty and she was blown away. Any serious pop music fan or collector should (and probably already does) own this.

The CD is a great overview of Elvis singing Gospel in his prime. Nobody does it better. His whole heart goes into each number, and the backup harmonies by the Jordanaires are beautiful.

Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii - Great, great, great, great!!!! This DVD contains the "Director's Cut" as well as the original concert film. Basically the Director's cut features lots of extra visuals, including computer graphic recreations of Pompeii, the exploding Vesuvius, and other things like NASA shots of rockets going up into space, space walks, images of suns and stars and moons and planets, all the usual things you'd expect of someone depicting a "space rock" band. It also has some extra bits from the studio in Paris when they were recording "Dark Side of the Moon." The Directors Cut starts out with space and planets animated instead of the big zoom-in to the arena in Pompeei of the original film. Not really an improvement, although it's nice to see ... Do not buy this disk. It is NOT a CD, it does not meet the standards for audio CDs and th CD icon is notably absent on the cover. The DRM used causes skipping making the music unlistenable.

When I discussed the Ric Burns documentary about the old West with an Amerindian acquaintance, I complained that the film concentrated on the Lakota, to the exclusion of other peoples. My friend answered that, as the Lakota was the best known native American culture, that was a good place to start, and the audience would then move on to learn about other parts of the story.

I suppose the same is true of the documentary by Ric's brother Ken Burns, on the history of Jazz, on which this box set is based. It is heavy on Louis Armstrong and on the Big Band sound of the Swing era - probably the Jazz best known to the general public - but light in other areas, including the many, varied strands of Jazz in the last 30 years or so. Absolutely love this CD. Saw the Cirque show in Las Vegas and missed buying the cd afterwards - my boyfriend and kept talking about it so much, and then another person I know played it one night and I knew I had to buy it. Even if you own every Beatles album, this one is great simply for its seamless transitions and mixes between various songs. Plus, it makes a great visual of the Beatles lives as musicians.

At least three essential, MUST have Beach Boy's songs: "The Warmth Of The Sun", "In My Room", and "Don't Worry Baby", are missing from Vol.1. They are found on Vol.2, as well as the great classic "Endless Summer" CD. "Vol. 1" is not even close to a complete Beach Boy's collection...get "Vol. 2" with it or "Endless Summer".

I have been a Elvis fan since 1962 and have seen RCA make one blunder after another and this collection is no exception. When I first saw the song selection, my immediate reaction was this is definitely not complete. No where to be found is take after take of the production numbers. Elvis was a perfectionist and as usual did take after take to get it right. I bought the set anyway because I buy anything RCA puts out. I am that devoted of a fan. When I listen to disc 1, I thought to myself that the original album probably left off "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child" due to limited space on a record but there is more than enough space on a CD. To call it "complete" there should be nothing in the TV special that is not included on the CD.
