I'll let you in on a little secret. The Old School Jams" compilation series is more than enough for any throwback party. Volumes 1-7 come with full 12-inch versions of those hard to find songs from back in the day! I wish they were available as digital downloads but it's worth every penny to order the cd collection. Whenever I play a live site, best believe I have all seven volumes ready to go! You can't go wrong with the funk of One Way, Parliament, or the likes of Kool and the Gang! Someone at the party is bound to ask if you have Vaughn Mason and Crew, some Cheryl Lynn, or Mtume. There are plenty of "old school" compilations out but this series is the most complete and the 12" dance versions make for a DJs mixing delight.

This mix CD was just okay for me. The first track is a mix of all the tunes used on the CD, which is a waste of space, and the tunes used were more house flava than the ol' skool I was looking for.

Run DMC may not have had that mucn in common with the Beatles musically but they were both pioneers for creating album music for their respective genres. Beatles for Rock in the 1960's and Run DMC for Hip Hop in the 80's when they released this album in 1984, which was the first real Hip Hop album with a coherant theme and songs with some substance. Before this, Hip Hop was mostly abouting having fun and dancing and as fun as Sugar Hill Gang had been it just wasn't something you wanted to hear throughout an entire album. Run DMC's sound was much harder and relied on hard hitting sparse electronic beats kind of like Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock" from two years prior and tough, confident sometimes daring rhymes. They also mixed alot of Rock in their ... Read More:

What can you say about the Biz Markie. He's fat, he's eclectic and his Annonciation is sub par to say the least, but what the Biz lacks in grace he more than makes up for in charisma.
This Elder statesman of the New York Hip-hop scene shows his full lyrical potential on this album. Along with his Cousin who makes up the second half this "dynamic" Duo, Cutmaster cool V, the two of them have managed to produce an album of quality beats, catchy hooks and sometimes hilarious rhymes. Think Tribe Called quest meets Fat Albert and the Gang (which insidently is reffered to on the classic tune Mudfoot).
All in all if you dont like the biz's style you'll be more than amused with his choice of subject matter and delivery. A worth while buy.

Man, this CD brings back more memories (tied with Run DMC's first two releases, and Whodini's Back In Black) than any tape, album, CD I have ever listened to. Except for Fairytale Lover, this CD has been played atleast 100 times by me and my family. Oh man, talkin' about this almost brings a tear to my eye. These cats had a monster flow, and even though it is outdated, you can tell that Educated Rapper and Kangol Kid were monsters on the mic throughout most of this joint.

Well, the compilation does appear to be missing "Your Chance to Rock" but, contrary to what the previous poster stated, the compilation does have "Everlasting Bass" and "Supercuts (Yeah Boy.)"

This is early stage techno / dance / purple rain influenced / Kraftwerk sound but still E.L. is unique unto his own style. I love it, but it may be too slow for some folks - really only 3 good songs on here. But you can't download it anywhere (My House ON The Nile) so you have to buy the CD. If you have any questions about it shoot me an email. It's a must in your "Old School" library. I tried to find out what happened to E.L. but not much info after 1993...
