Slick Rick comes back in 1994 with another album amid judicial woes, the appropriately titled Behind Bars. I am not an expert on Slick Rick, for this is the only album I own by him, but he is entertaining. With production by Paul Huston, Vance Wright, Easy Mo Bee, himself, and some remixing by Warren G and Pete Rock, the beats are bass heavy and funky and will rock ya system. Ricky has a dope flow and adapts it well to the beats. He can definitely tell a story, and by listening to Warren G and Snoop Doggy Dogg on their albums, it is easy to see where the influence came from. Behind Bars (title joint) is phat and jazzy boom-bap, and the way he uses his voice and flow, it is almost like there is two of him rapping trading verses! His story ... Read More:

Wow, not many rappers can make it to their 10th album. That is a huge accomplishment, especially from LL, one of the pioneers of our rap generation. Some say that LL's last good album was Mr. Smith, but in my opinon "10" was his last great one. I think the reason why people didn't like this is because this album was catered to the females, but not as much as his recent LP. I really wasn't feeling the frist single "Luv U Better" but I gave it a try anyway. The second single "Paradise" with Amerie was straight fabolous. It's one of those songs that makes guys appreciate their girlfriend. A lot of these songs were bumping, up tempo tracks, and that is the reason why I like this album. "Born To Love You" and "Fa Ha" were both excellent songs. Even when he uses his ... Read More:

A great sophomore effort, though not as important as its predecessor or successor. The title track is a classic example of the group's imaginative fusion of roaring guitars and dance beats - next time someone tries to tell you Korn was original, or any good, point them to this record and tell them the rap-metal thing had been around long before Korn, and was actually good once. And there are more great songs than just that: the funny "You Talk Too Much," which also offers some sweet synths; "Jam-Master Jammin'" is a great showpiece for Jay; a fine reggae experiment ("Roots, Rap, Reggae," one of the first songs to make the connection between the two genres - Yellowman adds a great vocal), and a bunch of songs with great riffs and turntable work: "Can You Rock it ... In a masculine dominated genre, not many ladies of hip hop were representing especially back in 1988-1989. Salt-N-Peppa, Sweet Tee, MC Lyte, and Roxanne Shante were a few very successful female artists. When Queen Latifah came onto the scene, she was unlike anything coming out at the time. Her mix of dancehall reggae, R and B, Jazz, House, and rappin' ability became unwordly to 1988 ears. Male or female, she may be the most versatile emcee to do it. "All Hail The Queen" is her shining moment which redefined emceeing as we know it.
The opening song "Dance For Me" is a great example of her versatility blending jazz with upbeat swing over a melodic 45 King production. When the single dropped in 1989, it got many heads buzzing. It wasn't no one hit ... Read More:

...Cause this best of cd is identical to none! Back in the days when graffiti and breakdancing was rampant and guys rocked fades with gaudy gold chains around their necks and walked up to women with breathe that reeked of backed up septic tanks(and they wonder why they never got a number!), there was the baddest duo that hip hop has ever seen. Eric B The DJ and Rakim the god MC. If any group made you want to be in New York to experience hip hop,it had to be Eric B and Rakim. I can only imagine what the reactions of the clubs were like back then when DJs played I Know You Got Soul and Eric B Is President(back when DJs played real hip hop and not this gay-bay-bay s*** they're playing now!). Rakim giving it to you raw and uncut with his execellent delivery while Eric B compliments ... Read More:
