Well, i was so thrilled to receive ULTIMATE COLLECTION a few weeks ago from U.S. (i am living here in Malaysia), to my surprise, the re-mastered sounded even WORST than the original albums. Re-mastered supposed to be better (check out the Re-mastered re-issued of PET SHOP BOYS complete titles, they really did a fantastic job there). I was so disappointed indeed. Most of the songs are edited, they should really considered release another 2-DISC GREATEST HITS album. Great songs/hits like "BEETHOVEN" "DON'T ASK ME WHY" "REVIVAL" "SEX CRIME (1984)" are all missing here on ULTIMATE COLLECTION.
One star for the BEAUTIFUL cover, and other Star for I'VE GOT A LIFE.
That's all folks. It ain't do any good for me.

This is definitely one of the best from Depeche Mode. Many of these songs exude creativity and emotion. They are also so believable where you can picture the lead singer David Gahan singing them to you. This is one of my favorite cds because when I first bought this cd I listened to it alot after work and its good for working out and making out. In my opinion what helps make this cd a masterpiece is many of these songs are creatively erotic and sensual but there are also some songs that appeal more to ones emotional side and spiritual side. In this cd there is something for everyone. Some of my favorites on this cd are just can't get enough, strangelove, dream on, personal jesus, people are people, walking in my shoes, and feel you. This album is one of their best. A great LIVE cut for this band. Bono's passion for what he sings ignites the audience. The Edge and the rest of the band putting forth extraordinary energy in every note. Buy this and enjoy it for years.

I think everything has been said already in the previous reviews so there's not much - or rather nothing - I can add.
All I wanted to say is that this is a very special record for me. I listen to a lot of music and own several hundred CDs but this one is really outstanding. I think that this record is really emotional but in a pleasent kind of way. A lot of songs on the album bring tears to my eyes everytime I hear them. The whole project was a great idea and one can feel that the participators put all their heart and love into it.
In short: Mermaid Avenue is one of the records that makes live worth living for me.
I'm a fan of Wilco but I love this one better than any of their studio-albums.

I was fortunate enough to have received (and reviewed) a copy of The Wombats' debut EP here in the states back in February. It didn't take me a long time to fall in love with the band. I found their witty tales of boy/girl woe to be irresistible, and the short, 5-song album really got me excited for their full length debut. After only a few months of anxious waiting, it has finally arrived. Does it live up to my expectations?
Totally. All of the wit and charm that The Wombats displayed on that EP (not to mention, all of the songs) are still in full force here. The intro-track "Tales of Girls, Boys & Marsupials" is a playful, acapella song that simply repeats its title for a minute or so. As a "real" song, it doesn't do much. But as the ... Read More:

I bought this to replace a cassette that I had made from the original vinyl LP and from vinyl 45s. Often collections of this type have a lot of filler that would best be left off. Not so here. If anything, I wish they had added one or two more B-sides from that period. This is great album packaged up to make a great collection. The result is a very enjoyable listen.

Elvis Costello is Evil himself.
*He stole the name from the the Good Elvis
*He can't sing.
*He has not composed one good song.
*He snatched Diana Krall.
*He has totally ruined and vandalised others' good songs:
-"Good year for the roses" by George Jones
-"On your way down" by Little Feat/Allen Toussaint
-"London Calling" by the Clash.

after reviving rock and roll, the strokes come back with a solid second effort, after this however they begain to backslide in my opinon.

Their jangling guitars and vocal harmonies remind me of the Byrds, and the Bangles never fail to get me going. Hard rocking mixed with humor and style, their songs are an eclectic mix that emphasizes their outstanding talent. Walk Like an Egyptian is one of the weirdest and catchiest songs ever recorded, and the video truly captured the quirkiness of it. My favorite on this album, however, is the fantastic cover of Simon and Garfunkel's Hazy Shade of Winter. I wish they had recorded a 20-minute version of it, because when I listen to it, I don't want it to end.
