There's little that I can add to the reviews already here in regards to the music and selections. It's great stuff, and a pleasure to hear.

I just wanted to caution buyers who might be getting this from an independent seller that this is a 2 CD set! Each CD has its own jewel case and then there's an over-case uniting the two. I twice ordered it from such sellers who had only the first CD and did not realize there was another one. They graciously refunded my money but save yourself the trouble I had and ask your seller to verify physically that they have both CD's before you order.

Having allowed this to settle for several years, I can now look back and compare it fairly with their entire catalog and without a doubt, this is a record that keeps sounding fantastic even several years down the road. I rank it ahead of DOD and AMOLAD, and not only that, I rank it ahead of quite a lot of their earlier work too. Wicker Man is one of their best album openers of all; Ghost of the Navigator a brilliantly original, progressive tune; Brave New World a classic title track that's pure Maiden; Blood Brothers... a bit weak; Mercenary a good Maiden rocker; Dream of Mirrors another brilliant progressive tune; Fallen Angel a great tune that gets lost in the mix of other greats; Nomad another great eastern-sounding Maiden classic; and the final two ... Billy Idol - Greatest Hits

I grew up in the 80's listening to Billy on my mom's record player and now am still listening to him on my MP3. I got this because it has most of his best songs- although I am not crazy about Shock to the System. I also don't understand why some of his other soulful works are not included on any "greatest hits" albums. I would have liked for "Prodigal Blues" and "The Loveless"(Charmed Life) and "Worlds Forgotten Boy" (Whiplash Smile) to have been included here. Even so, it remains a must have for any Idol fan. Other great Billy albums are Charmed Life and Whiplash Smile as well as his latest, Devils Playground. Idolize Yourself (another hits compilation) will be released later this month with 2 new songs. Love ALL that is Joy Division & I've gotten pretty much everything I can get that's available. As a whole, I prefer the first CD, UnkPleasures, to the last but not to say Closer isn't fantastic also. So unfortunate the band did not continue with it's original sound. However, the fact the original band members overcame tragedy, and continued playing together, is surely a testament to their musical talent and personal stamina. I'm checking out New Order now - don't know yet what the verdict will be - haven't received the music yet.

New Order , in the throws of casting off the shadow of ian Curtis suicide; desperatly trying to find a voice of their own have created one of the greatest pieces of art in the world. This record stands as the quintesential piece of work from the manchester based band. From the opening "age of consent" to the pop mastery of "the village" to the icy futuristic prophecy known as "blue monday" , they consistantly push the envelope of what could be considered pop music. Bernard Sumners child like whimsical lyrics, Peter Hook's edgy and intensly original bass melodies; and not to mention the near robotic almost perfect timing of stephen morris's drumming make this a listening experience that is rivaled by few others. Bruce Dickinson, I am born anew in your genius! 2 Minutes to Midnight is undoubtedly the greatest song to grace mankind. It is a blinding briliant light from heaven. I love Linda Thompson, Teddy's mother and I love Teddy's parents Richard and Linda Thompson together (sadly, they're divorced and no longer perform together). After hearing Teddy on the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack, I fell in love with his voice as well. In his new CD, a collection mostly of cover songs by such Nashville (and Bakersfield) legends as George Jones, Ernest Tubb, Dolly Parton, and Merle Haggard Teddy Thompson excels. He has the perfect voice for these country classics. Who knew something like this would come from a singer from the UK? Last year another favorite of mine, the great Van Morrison did a CD of country classics and although very good, I think Teddy has eclipsed him. Of course it doesn't hurt that he employs the fabulous Iris Dement on one cut.

Obviously this is the new waviest of their albums. It would've been nice to hear some more guitar, but there are still some great songs. "Drive" and the title track I cannot get enough of.

Interesting then as it is now. I love the fact that the music critics in '80 just didn't get it - it's a moody, techno-post-punk album full of angst, alienation, and self-doubt. But unlike the band Suicide, a band that Ocasek admired, the melodies always come back to a, "there must be meaning to it all", bridge. Call it existential music, dude.
