I first listened/saw this DVD about 3 years ago. In those 3 years, it is probably the most oft-watched DVD in my collection music or otherwise. I can't explain in words why it's so captivating to watch, only that it's an experience similar to going to a concert and witnessing something truly special. They are on an emotional rollercoaster and you feel lucky to be able to witnes it. One cannot help but get choked up when Bono tells a story about his father before dedicating Kite to his memory. Yes there is lots of interplay within the band. Bono resting his head on Adam's back while he continues to sing; or 're-living' Out of Control with Bono introducing the band as if it were 30 years prior. Cosmic Thing

I was first exposed to The B-52's in college, and really liked their music. I bought the vinyl albums The B-52's and Wild Planet. I checked out this CD from the local library. At first I did not like it but the more I listened to the album, the more I liked it. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys The B-52's.

If there's a New Order album deserving to be part of any essential albums ranking ever, it would have to be this one. A bit underproduced, perhaps too much austere for such a great release, the music still deserves the full 5 stars with no doubt.

Greatest Hits and Singles compilers from today should learn from the past by checking how this became probably the best ever out from New Order's discography, without having to spice it up with "new" releases that do not bring up anything new at all.

The perfect introduction to New Order for any newcomer, and always a pleasure for a commited fan.

A hit singles album like no one do anymore nowadays.

Antidotes

I saw Foals live last weekend (more on that in a bit) and immediately went out and bought their debut album. Foals has created quite a buzz in their home country of England on the strength of early singles like "Hummer" and "Matheletics", and finally in Spring, 2008, the debut album arrived.

"Antidotes" (14 tracks, including 2 bonus tracks; 53 min.) starts off a bit tentative with the misleading sound of "The French Open" but then immediately finds traction with "Cassius" (2nd UK single), followed by a blazing "Red Socks Pugie" (3rd UK single). The highlights keep on coming, including ""Balloons" (1st UK single), and even better the 1-2 knock-out punch of "Heavy Water" and "Two Steps Twice", the absolute highlights of the album. I had this on vinyl back in the day, but my other DL records were on so much they pretty much eclipsed this one as far as spin time. I just bought it last week again on CD and am really enjoying it. I think it's much better than just a decent debut by an up and coming band, or an interesting look at DL before they hit the sound they would run with. Anyone who heard this at the time it came out would have to have realized this band was going no where but up, up, up.
In fact if this album had gotten the production it deserved DL could have gotten an even earlier launch. As it happened though, hearing just this single debut album made John "Mutt" Lange to realize that DL was a band worth working with. He had produced both Highway to Hell and Back in Black, ... People picking up The Talking Head's debut album for the first time may be in for a surprise, especially if they're used to the eccentric experimentation of the "Remain In The Light" era, or the commercialized pop of the "Little Creatures" era. Back in 1977, the Talking Heads were a punk band but mostly only in their ethics. They played simple rock tunes but most of them lacked the raw energy of punk as played by the Ramones or Clash. Indeed, much of the music here sounds like late 60s and early 70 pop rock. What seperates these songs from post-psychedelic pop, however, is the lyrics and frantic atmosphere that would go on to characterise much of The Talking Head's music in the coming years.

It was a friend's party, senior year in high school, a hot June night after graduation 1980. A girl I knew arrived in a black cat-suit, dominatrix boots, and a purple telephone extension cord wrapped around her slim waist as a belt. I kissed somebody--I don't remember who. And this crazy, goofball tune pounded away on the host's JVC...

"Has anybody seen/ a dog dyed dark green?"

People seemed to know "Rock Lobster" from the year before. I guess I'd missed it. But listening to this album a week later, I found other tunes stuck out more, and one's stayed with me ever since. Obviously this is the new waviest of their albums. It would've been nice to hear some more guitar, but there are still some great songs. "Drive" and the title track I cannot get enough of.

I own a different copy of Billy Idol's greatest hits--the version that I believe was put out around 1997. However,there are some hits from Devil's Playground and other various songs that is on THIS deluxe edition.

Let me just say this for anyone wanting this deluxe edition. I bought this not for the greatest hits on cd--that was a given, but solely for the DVD videos. Every one of the videos are spectacular, colorful--just the way I remembered them! I paid $14.99 at a small record store--the album was shrink wrapped--so it was new.

Billy Idol's image and music are larger than life and I highly recommend this to anyone who is just getting in to Idol or for a huge fan !

Okay, I was a teenager in the 80's. And I mean, the entirety of my teenage years were in the 80's. Sadly, I had no connection with my peers at the time and totally missed 80's music.
Recently, I've been trying to catch up on what other kids were listening to back then.
One this entire CD there are two songs I've heard before, and one of them (Overkill) was heard the first time on an episode of Scrubs just in the last few years.
So far, I like it. Makes me wish I'd been more social back then.
