Sounding unlike anything produced before or since, this song melds superb pop craftsmanship with a surprisingly sophisticated political and spiritual outlook. And while it's perhaps not as accessible as "Synchronicity," it's musically even more complex and sophisticated.

Whilst the first half of this album contains the CLASSIC Once In A Lifetime and excellent The Great Curve, Crosseyed And Painless and Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On), the second half of this album is rather a snooze fest, with slow, moody songs with sparse instrumentation.

The first four songs are worth this purchase, though be warned about the last four. I particularly recommend the 2006 CD/DVD remaster, the two videos live from German TV show RockPop are great, but the 5.1 remix doesn't do much for me.

Overall, weak compared to their superior previous album, 1979's Fear Of Music. Get that before getting this one.

bruce really shows his true self,number of the beast he was still in paul's shadow and style of singing sort of.this was the original recipe of iron maidens classic form.I think many member found the niche and adrian bloomed into the guitarist he could be here too.this is one of the must have maiden cds along with stranger,7th son,powerslave,.

When I received the Def Leppard cd, High n Dry, I played it on my home cd player and on my auto cd player and it got stuck on certain sections. I would assume it is scratched. I intend to return it as soon as possible.

The exciting new wave sounds of the early 80's had given way to the utter dross of 1985 to 1989 (Yazz and the Plastic Population anyone?), but just on the cusp of Grunge and the Madchester Baggie scene was this bomb from the wonderfully eccentric B52s. Like a happy version of Wall of Voodoo but less Crazy than Devo, they came in from left field with a shimmering summer gem of an album. I always remember the English summers of the period as hot and dry, great cricket and BBQ weather. Never mind global warming, I think that this album alone lead to a succession of brilliant summers leading from 89 to about 95. Masterpieces are works that outlast their creators; even if those creators are still around. Such significant pieces define the artist, and in the realm of music the examples are so many: The Beatles' 'Revolver', The Rolling Stones' 'Sticky Fingers', Led Zeppelin's fourth album 'Zoso'. Their preceding albums are the buildup to that monumental apex, the peak, of where they are at their best, but most importantly of all where it all just comes together and where minor flaws just don't even exist. Though many will disagree with this humble opinionator, Iron Maiden reached their perfection with 'Somewhere in Time'. Just as Iron Maiden could not get any better after 'Powerslave', they prove all wrong with unforgettable heavy metal classic.

After years of success, some musicians believe they need to change, or at least alter the way they sound-look-act in order to maintain success, or at least remain relevant. U2 had made that same mistake; KISS made that mistake. The reality is some don't want to have that just-miss release and they over-think it, which doesn't help. One good example of this is Led Zeppelin's 'Presence': a good album, but far from what was expected from them. 'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son' is Iron Maiden's good album after years and years of great albums.

'Seventh Son' was released around the time the old guard of metal was giving way to Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. Many hard rock/heavy metal bands of the early to mid 80's felt the pressure and had to do something to maintain their relevance. ... Read More:

Combat Rock

I approach this album from a different perspective than some other reviewers. There are two great ponderous Joe Strummer numbers (Straight to Hell, Ghetto Defendant - featuring poetry from Allen Ginsberg) two instant hits, one by Mick Jones, the instantly catchy Should I Stay or Should I Go, and the darker, more powerful Joe Strummer number, Rock the Casbah (or as we used to sing in the 80s, 'fk the taskforce'). Car Jamming is another rockability number.

'Know your rights' is full of attitude and anger. Songs like 'Overpowered by funk' are still solid, even if they show disco influence. The last song "Death is a Star" has an almost cabaret feel to it, and is fittingly the endpoint for a great band.
