This review is meant for folks who wouldn't consider themselves hard-core fans, but who are interested in The Cure.
80's Alternative remains my music of choice even in 2008. I've always been a fan of The Cure, but wouldn't have called myself "hard-core" - up until this album I owned only four Cure albums. I pulled out KISS ME KISS ME KISS ME to introduce The Cure to a friend belonging to the generation below mine (I'm an X-er), who loves current dark, brooding Alternative music. I explained that The Cure did for Alternative music what Led Zeppelin did for Rock music, and invited him to explore the roots of Alternative. Not having listened to the album in a while, and feeling sort of reintroduced to it myself, I got a hankerin' ... Read More:

Growing up in the Minneapolis bar and music scene in the 1980s, I thought the only good thing that could come out of Wisconsin was Interstate 94. How wrong I was.
The Violent Femmes hit the Prince-saturated live music scene here like a plate of steaming-hot cheese nachos and a Pabst Blue Ribbon. Gordon Gano came from a place and a time where if your girlfriend dumped you, you could get drunk, get high, have a neurotic fit, and not hurt anybody but yourself. Actually, their music is the soundtrack for that kind of activity.
Other reviews complain that the Femmes could never top this album. Then, again, I think few bands could. Remember, the Femmes have put up four genuine rock and roll anthems like "Add it Up", "Blister ... Read More:

I became interested in Interpol when I heard Evil on the radio ... and I became hooked. I bought Antics and loved it, so when this album came out, I bought it instantly.
I do not know too much about music. I tend to like a song and then buy the cd (which seems to happen very rarely). I like the dark, yet humorous sound of this album. It is one of the few cds I can listen to repeatedly without ever tiring of it. The first 3 songs are my favorite, but Wrecking Ball and The Lighthouse are a great way to end the cd. It is an interesting sound with thoughtful lyrics, yet a little dark. And that is exactly what I want.
Interpol has never disappointed me ... and I doubt they ever will. Highly reccomend.

Elvis Costello is Evil himself.
*He stole the name from the the Good Elvis
*He can't sing.
*He has not composed one good song.
*He snatched Diana Krall.
*He has totally ruined and vandalised others' good songs:
-"Good year for the roses" by George Jones
-"On your way down" by Little Feat/Allen Toussaint
-"London Calling" by the Clash.

Whilst the first half of this album contains the CLASSIC Once In A Lifetime and excellent The Great Curve, Crosseyed And Painless and Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On), the second half of this album is rather a snooze fest, with slow, moody songs with sparse instrumentation.
The first four songs are worth this purchase, though be warned about the last four. I particularly recommend the 2006 CD/DVD remaster, the two videos live from German TV show RockPop are great, but the 5.1 remix doesn't do much for me.
Overall, weak compared to their superior previous album, 1979's Fear Of Music. Get that before getting this one.

This album rocks from cover to cover. I think it is Nick's best release. I was disappointed to find out that Norman Watt Roy of the Blockheads did most of the bass work, but I love him too. Nick grabs every hook in the book, and puts his own signature on them. It took me awhile to realize it, but "36 Inches High", with its quircky organ riff is priceless. This release includes a lot of nuggets that were only available on other releases previously, so I would recommend it over the US release, called "Pure Pop for Now People". Cool cover with a montage of Nick as various different rockers as well.

This compilation pulls together all of INXS's best songs and is a very good one-disc collection. The sound is great and it brings back so many memories, for me. if you like 80's new wave, post punk and sleek, funky pop/rock you should love this. All fans of 80's pop need this in their collection.

Oh my gosh, my sister had the cassette of this back in the day & we listened to it NON-STOP. We knew every single word to every single song and, of course, we still do.
I hadn't listened to this in FOREVER until a couple years ago when I came across the cd & bought it.
What good memories! What GREAT songs!! Does it get any better than this?! Talk about taking you back to a time & place!
I LOVE this cd! I guarantee my sister has it now, too. It's probably in her car right now. :)

While Van Halen were redefining metal with their debut album in 1978, The Cars did something even more improbable the same year -- they invented a new kind of rock: "new wave". This weird album could have stiffed at the cash register, but for some reason it took off. Five nerds from Boston reinvented pop music, and people dug it? So why did it work? You can choose melody or lyrics, and either way you win. Upbeat tunes, catchy arrangement, and instrumentation that we now take for granted (choppy guitars and synths) added up to hummable music. No matter that the lyrics were often dark, cynical and depressed. That just added to things. (When the local metal cover band is bellowing "let's party!", the Cars sophisticated world view seemed more appealing, especially if you ... Read More:

An excellent and quite a complete portrait of Blondie's career, not only highly recommended for newcomers (who will get to know the most important reference for all of today's female pop super-mega-stars...), but also quite a good compilation for those unconditional fans as all the songs here have been carefully remastered, providing a new cristal-clear sound to Blondie's classics worth being heard.
As they always did, Debbie Harry's vocals stand out masterfully over a melting pot of wonderful rhythms and styles, making this a unique band over the last three decades.
It also works fairly just as what it is: a Greatest Hits compilation. No rarities. No B sides. No new songs. No strings attached.
