The album is flawless. The musicianship is so tight and economical that not a single note or beat seems out of place (every person I've ever known is thrilled to hear 'Pump it Up'). While obviously one would not cast EC in "I Pagliacci" his vocal tones and inflections are perfect for his material, perhaps never more so than on this record.
But what makes listening to this so breathtaking is the songwriting. This, along with 'Armed Forces' form the most brilliant collection of compositions in the history of popular music. The genre that once relied on "one-two-three'o'clock, four'o'clock rock" and "tutti-fruitti aw rooty" now had Declan the Great to provide "you want to throw me away, but I'm not broken" and "I want to bite the hand ... As much as this greatly anticipated album was no letdown,I felt it wasn't "the next step" that everyone waited for. I was working the event and attended the CBS press launch for this album in NYC , and both Edmunds and Lowe did not seem 100% behind the final product. The accompanying two nights at the Ritz were stellar, but in my opinion the album lacks the cohesiveness of earlier efforts (Labour of Lust & Repeat When Necessary)and it always seemed to me that the track selection seemd "forced" for a an album from this band.
Put on Trax on Wax 4 or Repeat When Necessary and you'll feel the cohesiveness I speak of. The tracks all flow.
A great great album, but just shy of better than previous!

Definitely the last of the classic albums. It's a solid rocker, but I still hold Stained Class as the ultimate Priest masterpiece.

"Sad Wings Of Destiny," Judas Priest's second album, is an absolute classic and set the benchmark for what an intelligent, musically intricate rock album should be. Luminaries such as Metallica and Megadeth among many others have cited this album as an inspiration - and rightfully so.
Judas Priest's "Sad Wings Of Destiny" was a complete departure from their lackluster debut "Rocka Rolla" and was the impetus for the sound Priest would embark on for the next thirty years of their career. Beginning with the anthemic "Victim Of Changes," which has to be one of the best metal songs of all time, "Sad Wings Of Destiny" shows Halford, Tipton, Downing at their best.
To be honest, I didn't enjoy "Sad Wings Of Destiny" at first but found that is has grown ... Read More:

This CD is awesome. It sounds wonderful, and the music still stands up 20+ years later. I love it as much today as I did when I bought it on vinyl.

Without doubt, Argybargy was Squeeze's best album. Intelligent, catchy, witty, and most importantly lots of fun. Casual fans need only their Greatest Hits collection, but if you want to delve a little deeper, Argybargy is the one you want.

Being a big fan of Franz Ferdinand's first piece of work, especially the classic "Take Me Out," I checked out their follow-up album to see if they could avoid the sophomore slump and provide us some more rock anthems. This album has a problem though in the lack of variety. Either their sound doesn't permit a great deal of variety, or the vocals don't permit it. Either way, it's a very monotonous record.
In fact, the first track is the best track, and it's the best gauge to see if you're going to like the rest of the album, because if you love the song, then you can stand listening to the whole album in one sitting. Otherwise, you're out of luck. Not to say it's a bad album, it just could have used more depth to it. So, hardcore fans unite, everybody else find other means.
