This is the first and only New Order album I own and I love it! I don't know what I did without it! If you tend towrds 80's bands like Depeche Mode, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, you will love this. It is a great intro to New Order. And unless you have been living in a cave it does have easily identifiable hits like Blue Monday and Bizzare Love Triangle. Highly recomended for the euro-new-wave lover, but may not be for the the seasoned New Order fan.

Get the Knack

The best song on the album (IMHO) is "That's What the Little Girls Do", a great pop rock gem. "My Sharona" is of course a classic but not as compelling or melodic as "That's What the Little Girls Do". So it is most unfortunate that, on this newly remastered version, there is a distracting drop-out 40 seconds into "That's What the Little Girls Do". I returned my copy and purchased another...same blip. I looked over the reviews here on Amazon and see that another carefull listener discovered the same blip a few reviews back.
All in all, the album is not as great as I thought it was in '79. Why not? The Knack certainly had the right idea and brought great pop back to the radio but were soon "out-pop'd" by much better pop acts. What's better post ... Read More:

Retail Nightmare really is a nightmare. They never mailed my CD i ordered - and when I asked them - they said OH sorry we mailed 3 others that day and no problems with them. They said they would mail it out again which is wierd, it seems like they would be wondering where the copy they initially mailed was.

I month later - credit card charged - no CD.

Some people judged the album and artist on the basis that the band members were gay... almost obnoxiously so for some. Even though I disagree totally with the lifestyle and political views, I have to admit that Holly was a pure down and out brilliant musical genius. He and his band members were also brilliant and extremely talented musicians... virtuosos all! I danced to "Relax" in San Diego in the 80's at a big dance club called Confetti's. On a friday night I was with my wife on the dance floor, when as soon as the opening notes to Relax began playing, the drink servers went into a coreographed dance routine on the multi level dance floor and stairs. I can only speak from a high school kid's view in the 80's when this was released. "Turbo" and "Defenders" were popular and have a place in my adolescence, good or bad, this live album when it was originally released, was something you took the time to buy. Songs such as "Out In The Cold," "Love Bites," and "Heads Are Gonna Roll," were welcome additions to a live set mixed with their Steel and Vengeance material.

They were very careful to play the songs exactly as they sound on the albums, and to some that may give it a "flat" sound, and the semi-fake crowd noise and early digital recording adds to that. But Halford sounds great, the songs are played impressively, it has a nice flow, and made for a great party album in the 80's.

I reviewed most of the 80's cd's available on Amazon and I believe this cd - plus all the ones from the same series - are the best. The selection of songs is pretty good. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because there is about 3 to 4 songs that are not really what I would consider "hits" (but this is true of any 80's music CDs).
