Release Date October 25, 1990
In giving this a 5, I am analyzing from the perspective of country music unadorned by any flirtation with pop or rock. This first greatest hits of Reba, covering her stuff up to 1990, is definitely country singing. And singign is what it is. Loud, complicated instrumentaion is not featured. The songs and basic, being based on the singing and lyrics. The songs engage in very straightforward storytelling, accomanied by good rhythm. This stuff started Reba toward superstardom.

AS a big country fan, this is music that put collin raye on the map to stardom. I can tell that this man has a passion for music, he beams of it in his music. Quality artist worth every dollar.

As a Tim McGraw fan, I try to love all of his music but this is one of my least favorite CDs by McGraw. Ironically, I really love the first two songs on this CD, "Cowboy in Me" and "Telluride"; "Cowboy in Me" has become one of my all-time favorite songs. Nevertheless, after those two songs, the rest of "Set This Circus Down" was mediocre at best - I am not a fan of the songs after track #2. After "Telluride", the songs here sound repeatative and generic; like anyone could have sung them. And there is a very obvious shift in the sound on "Set This Circus Down" compared to some of of McGraw's earlier work, which may bother people.
Get this CD if you are a McGraw fan; if not, you may want to skip this one.

I'm not much of a country guy but my wife turned me on to this. Amazing performances by all. An absolute buy if you like country/bluegrass, musicianship and live performance. Stand outs: Ricky Scaggs at high speed, Alison Krauss with any one and Vince Gill with Ricky and Alison. Outstanding!!

Don't get me wrong here, I am one of the biggest Steve Earle fans around, and he's one of few artists who you can say has never put out a bad album. Every single album of his is a master work, and not many of his songs are weak. But this collection is a lame and extremely limited collection of mainly his early work; I have to think that's it's coming out to capitalize on the release of his new album, "Washington Square Serenade." Half the collection comes from his first two albums, when his last three albums up to 1997 were undoubtedly his strongest. Where are "The Other Kind", "Hometown Blues", "South Nashville Blues", "Ft. Worth Blues", "Hard Core Troubadour"? These songs blow away early tracks like "The Week of Living Dangerously" and "Snake Oil." To really ... Read More:
Release Date June 26, 2007
This was not a good year for country music, filled as it was with the usual lackluster fare on the mainstream and very littl on the alt-country side to make up for it. This pretty June release marks one bright and shining gem in a sea of dross. There is nothing unexpected about the shining beauty and honey warmth of Kelly's vocals, but she brings them forth in new and remarkable ways, growling with grown up sexuality on Teddy Boys and spitting with angst and rage on Too Much To Loose. The grown up quality of Kelly's vocal nuances really sets this album apart. There is a knowledge of the feelings and experiences behind songs like Translated From Love and Nobody Wants to Go To the Moon that show more than the loud/happy-soft/sad modulation of her mainstream peers. ... As the editorial suggests, this is Garth Brooks' best album. If you only own one, own this one.... it's beautiful, beginning to end... especially the end... The Dance. If you don't own it, then your CD library is pretty annoying.
