I found this on iTunes while browsing My Morning Jacket albums and accidentally pressed "enter" (which played a song sample) instead of pressing "back." Perhaps it's lame of me to admit, but tears welled up in my eyes because I was absolutely overcome. I'd never heard anything like it before, gorgeous, absolutely wonderful songwriting. I bought it immediately and cannot give it any less than five stars. I can NOT believe I'd never heard of them--it's a sin. Truly. Buy this album this minute and prepare to be enlightened like never before!

This album features some of Joe B.'s best guitar work and especially his best vocals. We all know how tremendous of a guitar talent he is, but he seems to be getting better and better vocally (he was always very good, of course). "Asking Around For You" is especially fantastic. And a great solo from the piano player as well. His guitar playing is astounding in "Walk In My Shadows" and "So Many Roads". In addition to some other reviewers, I also would welcome more blues material in this album, but I still enjoyed some of the rock material, especially the "Just Got Paid"-"Dazed and Confused" medley--great stuff!
A couple of letdowns, though, albeit minor ones. First, "If Heartaches Were Nickels" starts off as a heartfelt, acoustic blues ... Read More:

Noisiy guitar riffs, loud vocals, risky lyrics and cheesy slow ballads made this album just perfect for lost teenagers who are looking for a new Avril Lavinge to follow.
Apart from a few good ones, including of course the hit singles, there's not really much new on this "Pink-meets-Avril Lavinge-wannabe-Alanis Morisette" experiment.
The good ones are really good and the other ones, well, are just not much relevant... Probably, rather than releasing full album, a Maxi-EP would have been better enough as one can feel how some of the cuts are in here just for filling.

John Mellencamp has been in the music industry over 30 years, and on this, his 23rd studio album, he mostly zeroes in on what it's like to age (Mellencamp is 56 now), and death.
"Life Death Love and Freedom" (14 tracks; 50 min.) is as far away from his early/mid-1980s heyday as a mainstream hit-making artist as he's ever recorded before. Once cannot miss the almost constant focus in the songs on getting older and death. "If I die sudden/Don't tell anyone/There ain't nobody needs to know" laments Mellencamp on "If I Die Sudden". And "This getting older/Ain't for cowards/This getting older/Is a lot to go through" he croons on "Don't Need This Body". The production by T-Bone Burnett is exquisite (although not as pervasive as on the outstanding Robert ... Read More:
