I have owned this CD for a while and I keep coming back to play it for comfort. I love his blues style and interpretation of old Vietnam war classics. The timeing and message is clear, but the songs are beautiful. He can do it all! What a musician!

This is as good as music gets. The first CD is an introductory one, with some dated material, but once you get beyond the 40's, every song is a winner. This contains several Greatest Hits sets all in one place. Just brilliant stuff, to which I'd give my highest recommendation.

The last time I mentioned the name Chris Smithers in this space was in a review of a few of his CDs that I have listened to over past fifteen years or so. Chris, although he has been on the folk scene in the Boston area since the 1960's and has played all the venues associated with that folk revival and the current dwindling remnant of that revival , has become an acquired taste picked up almost accidentally by hearing him being interviewed on NPR in the early 1990's. I will use the first paragraph of that CD review to start the DVD review of this present musical documentary because that same question asked there applies here.
"If I were to ask someone, in the year 2008, to name a male folk singer from the 1960's I would assume that if I were ... Read More:

This album one must belong among the ones leaning most heavily on traditional blues/jazz from Van Morrison. Though most of the songs are Morrison originals his songwriting style is clearly based based on the 12-bar blues style.
Like always Morrison works with the best musicians and the playing and his singing is great. Though this "back to the roots" approach is highly competent, for me the highligts are when he leaves the strict blues-pattern and his own Irish background and writing style shines through.
Songs like "Once in a Blue Moon" and "Little Village" have the qualities to become new Morrison classics - especially "Little Village" is great.
Among the more traditional blues-styled songs I also find "Somerset" and "Too ... Read More:

This is a very good, soulful, "blues-oriented", guitar and band concert that was filmed June 17, 2003 on the "Austin City Limits" television show. The music is great, smooth, relaxing and very enjoyable to watch and hear. Susan Tedeschi and her band perform at their best.
The line-up consists of: Susan Tedeschi on lead guitar and lead vocals,(Susan is an excellent "blues" vocalist); Jason Crosby on keyboards, violin and vocals, William Green on B3 Hammond organ and vocals (His playing style is very unique, he moves with the music.),Ron Perry on bass and vocals, and Jeff Sipe on drums and vocals.
The concert consists of 15 songs. Some highlights include: "You can make it if you try" (A Sly Stone song); "The Feeling Music Brings" (written by her and ... Read More:

I bought this album on it's reviews and associated albums I own. Albert Cummings will be added to my favorite blues artist list. This album is an outstanding example of the best of todays rythmn and blues artists.

I can't say too much that listening to the samples above won't more eloquently say for themselves..stripped down, visceral, authoritative blues. If you like blues, this one's a keeper!
Release Date February 05, 2008
This is a wonderful CD. Mr. Allison shows his chops both instrumentally and vocally, playing many styles of blues on different numbers, some with a blues-rock emphasis. The recording quality is very good. I don't write many reviews, but I was truly impressed with this album. I don't think it has received adequate acclaim. It should be in every blues-lover's collection.
Release Date September 13, 2005
I usually don't like listening to Iconic musicians when they cash in or appear to cash in and do an album, when they should have 'left on a high note' and hung it up to preserve the music canon. Like Rod Stewart. Used to love his early stuff, but with his weak voice, I can't bear to listen to him NOW.
But BB King. When he is "ON" or putting in the effort, no one can sound like him. He actually is in 'better voice' here than his earlier works! It's a bit raw-but the energy is all there. He can just blow the doors off other tenors. It's a cutting contest what he does to Van Morrison in the vocal dept.; but it is all in good fun with "Early In The Morning", a good drinking song.
