More than 30 years after Stax-Volt last published, at last I have my hands on all three volumes of 'The Complete...'. The individual volumes have some great music, not all of which found its way around the world. Hearing great music for the first time long after the label's demise is a mixture of elation tinged with regret. Yet the breadth of the three volumes is astonishing and encompasses a range of talent, unique yet all related through the label (of course) and mostly through the session/backing musicians. If you can, buy all three volumes of this amazing collection and then turn the music up. And see how quickly your smile turns to a broad and happy grin. Enjoy.

first, I would say I think Taj Mahal is a great performer! I've seen Taj Mahal perform a few times here in Amsterdam during the last 10 years, and live he's a sensation!
But I'm a bit confused, I hope some of the blues experts, here on Amazon can help me out. Both this album, "Taj Mahal", and the Roots 'n' Blues series reissue "Taj's Blues" (I love that series!) claim to be a reissue of his first album. And of course there is a overlap in songs. (and to have all the songs you have to buy both?) Could someone help me out? what's the story about this?

I feel like Arnold Horshak when this disc comes up. For me this is the definitive Albert King. I'll Play The Blues For You, Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody's Home, Laundromat Blues, and Don't Burn Down The Bridge. Albert excels here. Makes me Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody's Home. That's because 'Girl, I just want to know you.'

If you like the eclectic mixture of Rock and Blues Popa Chubby mastered, then you'll like this CD. Popa is in more of a rock mode in this one, but there's lots of blues here as well.
It seems like every CD has acouple of high points for the blues purists out there, and this is no exception. "Grown Man Crying Blues," "Man of the Blues" and this uniquely titled "Rock and Roll You Heartless Bitch" show that Popa Chubby is still clearly a master bluesman.
This is primarily a 'fun' CD, but it also has it's depth to it. Popa often portrays himself primarily as a 'fun' act (consider the double-entendre name), but he demonstrates his guitar virtuosity on a 'surfer' version of the Godfather theme, and he shows his depth as a songwriter on "Rock and Roll You Heartless Bitch." ... This is an amazing album. Mostly instrumental, but a little bit of singing. Roy is absolutely amazing on the guitar. I found myself picturing him playing and watching his fingers. The music truly takes you away - and that's a good thing. I discovered him purely accidentally. There was one of his pieces on a sampling cd my daughter's boyfriend had given her. He, the boyfriend, is a musician. And let me tell you they know (or at least he does) good music. I think Roy Buchanan has moved me in a direction toward music I didn't know was out there.

It was great when I bought it as a 2 vinyl set back in the late 60's and great when I caught up with it as a 2 CD set a few years back. I still have both and love to play the vinyl and the CD. Shame that some of the potheads are finally waking up and breathing fresh air and complaining. I have not been to a concert where there has been perfection.... and, all the better for it!!
