I had the pleasure of getting an early peek at this material when I went with a friend to see Lewis Black on New Year's Eve of 2007; the material on the CD was almost identical to what I heard. However, I had forgotten all the exact jokes, so I bought the album anyway. I laughed just as hard now as I did then.

Many of the jokes revolve around anticipation and how the anticipation of any event is better than the event itself. He talks about the anticipation of losing your virginity, how gamblers and golfers live their lives in anticipation, and he throws that theme in during his Santa track is a hysterical moment. I have been eagerly anticipating the new Stereolab album for some time, intrigued by Tim Gane's tantalising account of the creative process that led to 'Chemical Chords'- of a batch of his own musical doodles from which the groop developed the final, fleshed out tracks in the studio. So yes, as one would expect from Stereolab, 'Chemical Chords' is a lushly orchestrated album (Sean O'Hagan's arrangements add wonderful texture, especially the strings on 'Cellulose Sinshine' and 'Self Portrait With Electric Brain'), but each track bears the succinct imprint of a singular idea perfectly realised, unlike previous albums where some tracks feel like two or three condensed into one. Plenty of other reviews here - but I just want to join the chorus. I'm not really a beginner but it's a great easy workout for a saturday morning. Lovely to watch, with costumes and staging. I like the onscreen directions, I like the option to play without voice-over, I like the breakdown section, I like that they swap over, I like that it moves at the right pace for me when I'm tired and stiff. The only small quibble is with Neon who can't seem to isolate her hips when shimmy'ing in some of the sections - but she doesn't lead those parts and she is beautiful to watch nevertheless. I think I would have to buy Blanca's sensual bellydance after watching her here, I think she is fantastic. Definitely worth the small price, which is only the cost of a lesson in any ... Read More:

I've enjoyed this album very much. More than half the songs are her classic's and that's a pretty good average on anyone's album! I also bought a Piaf singing English album {edithpiaf, hymm to love; all her greatest song's in English}} at the same time, which makes for a very nice companion piece to this one. And again most of her well known classic songs in English on that album too!

It helps to keep the French dictionary time down to a minimum! Enjoy!
