Rachel Portman's "Chocolat" is an exquisitely delicious soundtrack. It perfectly complements Lasse Hallstrom's sensuous movie about temptation, longing, and love. There's the music of Duke Ellington (it's set in post-WW II France) and Django Reinhardt, the famous Gipsy guitarist. The opening theme is an amazing blend of Gipsy and South American music (panpipes) It evokes the character of Vianne, the beautiful chocolatier, the daughter of a French scientist and a Mayan maiden who healed with cacao. "Chocolat" is an irresistible temptation!

The artistry on this work is unmistakeable Jarrett and I daresay that it has never been duplicated, by KJ or anyone else, since. How in the heck can one guy keep one song going for a half hour (or more) I'll simply never know. But what really drives this recording is the sound. The piano is just not quite right, and the upper and lower registers sound like two completely different instruments. Indeed, in the first song, the bass is so pronounced and so oddly sounding, it had me looking at the liner notes to see who the bass player was. (No wonder Keith doesn't drive down into like he does on his more recent work.) Just the same, Keith works within the limitations of the instrument to evoke the musicality and feelings that he has in his brain ... Read More:

I have never heard of these guys except by name. Until i bought this CD. And I ended up buying it out of curiosity. This reminds me a bit of... well I'm not sure what to say. They have a very unique sound that no one can define. And that is good if you are looking for something to stand out. And these guys definitely do. Lyrically, they have an unusual way they look at things, I guess. I have to get used to their sound. But I recommend this if you are looking for something different.

This is a rather underrated and obscure edition to Carlin's catalogue, but it's a great one. It's really just a lot of logic that packs some good laughs. More focus on observations and commentary than straight ahead comedy, but it's much funnier than some of his goofy stuff. It's actually a lot like his 90's material only more laid back.

I have 3 nephews that used the Boy Version of Once Upon A Potty and now my daughter is using the Girl Version. She loves the video and can watch it over and over. Kids seem to really connect with the character and want to imitate them. She is already sitting on her potty from just watching the video. Amazing!

"Why is there Midol?" was the question I asked myself in the late 1960s when I was just a little too young to catch some of Bill's references. But, having achieved hoary middle-age, I'm catching more than I used to.
"Why is There Air" (WITA) is Bill Cosby's 1965 comedy album, his 3rd album of comedy material. Bill continues to mine his childhood reminiscences, including embellished memories of what it's like to be in kindergarten, shop class and "personal hygiene" class. He also throws in some funny material about driving on San Francisco's steep streets, and a hilarious bit about getting rid of a toothache with Midol, the women's anti-cramping medicine. WITA's piece are a little longer and better developed than Cosby's previous material, ... Read More:
