Can't really add anything not mentioned in Aquarius's (superior) review,but wanted to at least "second" the notion: this is excellent stuff! I think I prefer this over the also excellent Bunalim release!

If you have been looking for an Arabesque addition to your collection, this is a good place to start. This CD contains much in the way of regional pieces steeped in spirituality and folklore from the composers native Turkey, as well as influences from the surrounding region. There are songs that are meditative, as well as those that make you want to dance around a fire in the desert, 'Shashkin" being the best of these. The compser's been around for quite a while. the other instrument players are highly regarded, and all can open doors for you into the staggeringly diverse world of music from the Middle East.

HOSSAM RAMZY IS A MASTER OF PLAYING NATIVE MIDDLE EASTERN PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS. THIS WHOLE CD IS ALL PERCUSSION, NO HORNS, STRIINGS, OR ANYTHING ELSE. IT IS RAW, PRIMITIVE MUSIC, AND IT IS GREAT. I AM NOT A BELLY DANCER, SO I DON'T KLNOW HOW IT STACKS UP AGAINST OTHER BELLY DANCING MUSIC, BUT I ENJOY HEARING THIS MUSIC. IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES TO LISTEN TO WHEN I AM DOING CARDIO EXERCISE OR RUNNING, IT REALLY GETS YOU MOVING. I WISH I HAD A FEZ TO WEAR WHEN I HEAR THIS STUFF.

This is really an incredible album! I haven't listened to Terry Hall in years, not since Fun Boy Three, and had all but forgotten him. I'm really into Middle Eastern music these days, and found out about this on BBC online-radio and gave it a listen. I thought..darn that voice sounds familiar..nah couldn't be..and yep, sure enough, that same guy from the Specials etc, that I'd completely forgotten about for the last 10 years. I was hooked so I listened again the next day. And again the next. The songs just got stuck in my head, and so I bought the album from Amazon. Not sure what's different but the cd is even better than the online BBC stuff. Love that first track with the dhol too.

Calling all CD file clerks, including the one this reviewer doubles as when he puts away his cds on their shiny little stands (bought cheap at Target and hastily assembled by the reviewer and file clerk): where the *heck* do you file music by the oddball, fast-paced, old-new, traditional-iconoclast, Yiddish-English makers of this hilariously titled albums like this one (RHYTHM + JEWS) and JEWS WITH HORNS?

I'm not sure there's an answer. So put off the filing and download a track or two of this amazing (as in 'love it or hate it') music. This reviewer loves it, or at least wants to register his admiration for the sheer panache of the Klezmatics' offering.
