These 50 Sunday School songs are a good selection for children. The little children's choir is sweet with a few good voices. Since this CD is associated with the "Dear God" series one would perhaps have thought that the choir would have been larger and somewhat more professional. The instrumentation is fun, but sometimes the pace is a too upbeat ~ especially the drums. Perhaps the directors were trying to keep up with energy of young children. Each of the short selections (lasting about an average of one and a half minutes) is sung well with exacting diction by the individual singers, some of whose voices are better than others. Overall, it is a delightful CD to entertain Sunday School classes.

Every time I catch sight of a Vox Alia CD with its distinctive packaging I find resistance is futile and I end up buying it. This gorgeous collection of lullabies delivered much more than I had ever dreamt possible.

What gives this CD its magic is the fact that this is music making amongst friends and family. In fact the record label is Jordi Savall's own, Monserat Figueras is his wife, and Arianna Savall his daughter - so it really is an all family affair. The whole of Hesperion XXI play like they know each other intimately and we are just privileged eavesdroppers who were lucky enough to have overheard them. After my son was born, I found it hard to find music to play when I put him to bed at night. A friend told me about "Sing Me to Sleep, Daddy" and "Sing Me to Sleep, Mommy". My son will turn 3 in April and we still play these CDs every night when we put him in bed. I love that my son hears every night how much he is loved.

It has also become the gift that I give everyone expecting a baby.

What a nice surprise it was when my wife played for me this lullaby CD as we were driving on our vacation. I loved Ewan McGregor's voice in Moulin Rouge and I must admit that I'm still a fan. I can't say that the CD will help facilitate a child anytime soon, but you never know...

I thought all of the arrangements were very well done, and I would have no problem recommending this CD. I think I may have found a pretty cool stocking stuffer. Kudos to Eric Vetro for assembling such an array of "Unexpected Talent."

Celtic Dreams

I actually find myself humming some of these songs occasionally, along with the songs from the other Ellipsis album Celtic Lullaby (which I prefer). This is an excellent CD for children, and adults with any taste for traditional music - I bought about a half-dozen albums with titles that were variations on "Celtic Lullaby," and this and it's companion take the prize. Of course, one doesn't need to be a Celt to enjoy this. If you're a derascinated Celt, however, and you want to get some exposure to a tradition that you've been robbed of, this is a good way (if this is part of your aim, also pick up "The Virgin's Lament (Caoineadhi Na Maighdine)" by Noirin Ni Riain).

We just received this as a gift. I was very excited as I LOVE lullaby music, but the excitement didn't last long.

The vocal "talents" are distracting on most of the songs and the music on The Sleep Song isn't peaceful but almost eerie . I don't find this CD quieting or soothing as I expect a lullaby should be. It's nice music, just not lullaby worthy.

My favorite lullaby cds are Bless My Baby Boy and Sleep Sound In Jesus.

As a huge Radiohead fan, I got this for my daughter when she was born. As an infant, it calmed her down everytime. Sometimes I wonder if the reviewers who wrote "why not play the real thing?" ever had an infant with colic. This is great for bedtime and of course the real thing is great for daytime. My daughter still asks for "baby Radiohead" at bedtime and requests original Radiohead in the car. If you are looking for a lullaby album that is not completely annoying, this is the one to get!

We received this CD as a gift before our first, and only, son arrived this past Spring. To be honest I was looking forward to hours of old lullibies as I was having to spend money on purple dinosaurs and stuffed animals with weird geometric shapes growing out of their heads forced on us by the Brits. However, my wife and I were more than pleasantly surprised.

This folk take on the classic lullibies is a winner. We can listen to it everyday . . . and we do! Within a few minutes, our son is sound asleep or at least calm and quiet and we're singing along (usually offkey). It reminds of Mermaid Avenue by Billy Bragg and Wilco who brought Woody Guthrie back to life with a "sound that raised the roofs of the old barns. Just what Woody would have done." ... Read More:
