Just so you know, folks, there was one advantage to the double-album vinyl release (Vanguard VSD - 9/10, 1970) and that's the inclusion of Hank Snow's song "Movin' On" between "The Cloud's Are Gwine Roll Away" and the instrumental "Windy & Warm"; it was presumably removed because of the length of the album when transferred to the 80-minute CD limit. Admittedly, you don't miss much but those of you with turntables might want to keep an eye out for this one in the used record stores that are rapidly disappearing from the American landscape. For those without turntables, give thanks that this classic recording is available on CD because it's a true American treasure.

This cd is perfect for kids! I grew up listening to this tape and at 22 I still know all the words by heart! Sing Song Kitty was my favorite song.

I'd heard a couple of Kate Wolf's songs on the "Folk Sampler" radio program. "Carolina Pines" was the hook, and now I have most of her recordings. I'd say that this live recording is a true gem. This CD has brought together all the qualities of what I enjoy in music. The sequence of songs flows with the artist's masterful rendering of imageries, pure voice, thoughtful reflections, emotional honesty, and tranquil yearning. Moreover, some between songs comments by Kate Wolf add a personal touch. This would be at the top of "if I were stranded on a desert island with a CD player" list.

'Unplugged' does not quite match your expectations if, as I did, you are looking forward to Dylan doing an entirely acoustic version of some of his most famous compositions. At its heart, it is simply Dylan performing nine of his most famous compositions with an amplified backup band, plus 'Shooting Star' and 'Dignity' which are not that familiar to me.

Now any performance of Bob Dylan material, especially by Bob Dylan, is not to be overlooked, but there is a lot of overlap here, if you already own Dylan's albums up through 'John Wesley Hardin'. In a sense, Dylan is doing covers of his own classic stuff. And, in many cases, the covers are different, but not necessarily better than the originals. Few artists can successfully translate the strength and intimacy of a live performance onto a CD, but Richard Shindell is just the sort of rare singer/songwriter who does just that. His CD, titled "COURIER" was recorded live in New York and New Jersey, and the excitement of those performances is beautifully captured on this album.
