What a great time in America! It was the Golden Age(around 1957 to Nov.22 1963) and sadly we'll never see times like that again. You can't roll back the march of time but you can listen to this great CD! For me the KT with Dave Guard was it! Just wasn't a fan of John Stewart-a talented guy- but to me his voice just didn't meld with the others to create that etherial magic that is the mystery of music...Phil and Don..John and Paul--you get the picture? The audio quality isn't the best but it's not bad by any means. It's just amazing how talented these guys were and how good they sound live--they were the real deal-no studio tricks needed. Here's to you "Lady Bird" were ever you are!

I'm dying for a good Chris W. live recording with full band. Most of the performances on this record are completely over the top and just plain overdone. I just kept thinking "dude,relax".

I was in college in the SF bay area in 1966 or 1967 when I first heard Sandy Bull on the radio...(KSAN, maybe?) when the DJ played "Blend", the longest song I had ever heard on the radio to that time. I was mesmerized, stupefied even...I was a guitar player myself, and he quickly entered my Pantheon of guitar gods. My only disappointment about Sandy Bull was that I never had the opportunity to see him live, and in fact, by the time he made the recording at the Matrix, he was probably compromised by a long-time drug addiction, and parts of this recording seem to evidence that. When I had trouble placing my order I called the 1-800 # and was helped by a very courteous lady from eastern North Dakota. Really enjoy the music on the CD and the price was right too. Live in London (2008), the first concert release from Iona in almost a decade and the band's third live CD, gets its material from a November 2004 gig held at the University of London. The complete concert, along with supplementary features such as the acoustic set from the concert and interviews, was released on DVD in the spring of 2006. This audio release of the plugged section of that concert (the acoustic set is not included) easily shows you the incredible strengths of the band, which often come across better live than in studio. The backing band is Glasgow, Scotland's Lies Damned Lies, who in their own right makes great albums. As a huge LDL fan, I was floored to discover they backed the late, great John Stewart. Everybody wins with this CD.

Bowery Songs

Recorded while Joan was touring to support her excellent "Dark Chords on a Big Guitar," there is a range of terrific material on "Bowery Songs." While there may be those who carp that some classics are not here ("Diamonds and Rust," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"), there is plenty to fall in love with. She seems to have found a kindred spirit in Steve Earle, who is represented twice. "So come back Woody Guthrie...rise up old Joe Hill..." she sweetly sings as reminders of times before the song was even written. To balance that, she includes both "Deportee" and "Joe Hill," plus three Bob Dylan songs. "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" is the highpoint of that trio.

It's Richard live and it's superb, of course. His performance of "Persuasion" which he co-wrote with Tim Finn would be worth the price of admission on its own.
