Release Date September 17, 1991
This is a live CD that has been overdubbed in parts due to "technical difficulties". It gives the CD a strange sound, like someone playing along to their favorite songs.
This is Steve Earle just before he fell completely over the deep end. Normally, that might not be a bad thing. People like Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan have actually lost thier spark once they cleaned up. Sad to say, but some of the greatest music of all time comes from the drug addicted, including Jerry Garcia, Carlos Santana, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.
But, the problem with Earle is that he may have been too far gone. The other guys kept it under control and let it out in their music. Earle is paranoid and edgy.

`Joan Baez in Concert Parts 1 and 2' may have been the very first Joan Baez albums I heard, back in 1963, just a few months after having gotten my spiffy new portable record player for my small bedroom, and at least a year before I took to the Beatles and at least three years before I took to Bob Dylan.
It is entirely appropriate that Joan did these live albums so early in her career, as there is just something very right about hearing folksongs, both old and new in the presence of a live audience, as that is easily the most important point of folksongs, before they were mutated into the singer / songwriter product.
As the performances are so simple and the only real job of the soundman is to faithfully pick up Ms. Baez' voice ... Read More:

Steve Earle has managed to build a pretty good audience over the years; Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt should be household names in certain parts of the country but remain sadly unknown to the bulk of us. This magical album presents each artist at their stripped-down best: taking turns doing their own songs with just voice and guitar, in the Bluebird Cafe's fine Songwriters in the Round tradition. The songs are exceptional, the performances heartfelt, the wit in good doses. Townes seemed to be having an especially good night, considering the depth of his alcoholism and depression; his material is probably the most rewarding. If you enjoy the sound of just a man's voice and his guitar, this is a must-have.

Obviously, as you can gather from the other reviews here, some major reconstructive studio and electronic magic had to be conjured to even bring this concert to us at all. When you add in the caveats about Sandy battling a bad cold and a failing marriage (and a complaint I heard elsewhere about her chain smoking already starting to do to her voice what Joni Mitchell has lived long enough to do to hers), it's a wonder this is even listenable. And yet I think it is a triumph and I would hardly have noticed it's shortcomings unless someone had gone to great lengths to point them out to me. I'm old enough to remember when live performances by most of your favorite bands or artists usually sounded absolutely awful in person and even worse on tape or vinyl. ... Read More:

This is an upgrade from a vinyl LP to a CD. The record is warp and scratchy so buying this CD and hearing the music without distortion was wonderful. This has been a favorite for a very long time, the songs old friends. I bought a record player last year so that I could listen to my LP but there's nothing like a CD. I like to get up in the morning and start my day with a spiritual twist. I sing along and know the songs well since I have been enjoying Village Gate for a long time. My very favorite track is #8, V'Zocher because I feel the soul of Shlomo's voice. I like the voice range of this song and the tambourine sounds. Sholmo is happy and bouncy, if I'm allowed to say a Lubavitch Rebbi can be bouncy. Yeah! he definitely has kavanah and his music makes it possible ... Read More:

When I got a new MP3 player recently, I went through about 5000 MP3s on my hard disk, just picking out my favorite songs from each artist/album to go on the player, but when I got to Chad Mitchell Trio, *ALL* of their songs from all their (pre-John Denver) albums went on.
Some of their songs are funny, some are rousing, and some are just beautiful melodies with those great CMT harmonies. There is not a song in the bunch that I don't enjoy listening to. And "At The Bitter End" is possibly their best album. But you can't go wrong buying them all.

Just got an Oppo 970 and HDMI receiver and figured a 5.1 Neil Young concert would be fun. So far as I can tell, the DVD Audio center channel is never used, and the mix sounds like it could use it. Other 5.1 DVD Audio discs seem fine (Jackson Browne "Running on Empty", so just chalk it up to whacky old Neil doin' his thing.
