Another folk luminary that performed in Alice Springs in the early 90s at the legendary Riverside pub, Van Ronk was well and truly a folk, jazz, and Blues elder statesman. I held off on Van Ronk's valedictory recorded concert, errantly thinking it would be somehow voyeuristic, knowing it was his last performance. What shame! He is in top form, and the sense of aliveness, of vitality, is the antithesis of my preconceptions. A brilliantly delivered set and brilliant patter between songs. There is not a clunker among them. Paxton, Dylan, Ochs, Jelly Roll Morton, Josh White, Brownie McGhee, all receive the Van Ronk gravel treatment; the almost hoarse and fragile vocals contrasting with his delicate touch on the guitar strings. It was his take on ... This album is an old friend. Like others, I bought (and still have!) the vinyl version of this. It's an old friend too in the relationship between Pete, Arlo, and the audience, which will include you. I had the honor of talking with Arlo once. He told we that they still get together now and then to jam. The Carnegie Hall sessions are merely an extension of those family get-togehers.
Pete Seeger is Americana. He gave to an America that took unjustly from him. Pete was black-listed during the McCarthy Era and struggled to feed his family. Yet he worked to bring dignity to migrants and the family man on the assembly line. Pete marched with Martin Luther King Jr., stood with him at the Lincoln Memorial, and introduced him to "We ... I have to tell you, if you are looking for the best Joan Baez ever had to offer early on, then this is the album for you. Everything, up to and including 'Nu Bello Cardillo, which is, by the way sung in dialectical Italian, probably Siciliano, and NOT Portuguese, as previously mentioned is worth the price of this album. If only to hear Joan sing in perfect Italian! Manha de Carnaval/Te Ador, Queen of Hearts are achingly, longingly sung in Baez's beautiful young, pure soprano. This is my favorite Joan Baez album, which carried me through the 60's right up to the present. Buy it, -- you won't regret it!

This is mostly a collection of the songs and poetry supposedly written by the legendary I.W.W. martyr Joe Hill. It is interesting more as an historical collection of the earliest songs of the I.W.W union movement than for its musical content. Much of music used in these songs where written by others. Joe Hill would change the original lyrics to promote the I.W.W. and its socialist movement, and call the so-called hated enemy names.

I hail from Singapore where I bought this DVD from my CD/DVD shop. It is a great watch, one that brings sane music into the
living room. You cannot get this kind of quality music and songs nowadays due to the lost direction music is heading towards nowadays in America.
I am full of nostalgia listening to the vintage voices of Paul and Art. I also got emotional because the songs reminded of mthe times I was a child. How I relive those times again and again as I listen to them. The duo emote and provoke a lot of sentiments.
How I wish they would get back together during this
time of their senior years. There will never be another Paul and Art. It takes a long time to produce another original Paul and Art.

CD was very enjoyable. At times its a little hard to hear all the bantering going on but it does take you back to a time when music could be enjoyed.

I own (and love) Hayes' two previous CDs, so I was rather ambivalent about purchasing this one, given that too many "live" albums are just a rehash of previously recorded material punctuated with applause. Fortunately, I sent for the CD anyway, and it's a revelation. Irish music arose in an environment that fostered an intimate connection between performer and listener; while tradition was respected, spontaniety and the imprint of the musician's personality were equally valued. Working within traditional Co. Clare fiddling style, Hayes teases out the nuances of each tune, from thoughtful to lighthearted to downright raucous; Cahill is a perfect ally, providing both support and (at times) contrast in his solo passages. What I find remarkable about the 27 ... Read More:

This is a live CD that has been overdubbed in parts due to "technical difficulties". It gives the CD a strange sound, like someone playing along to their favorite songs.
This is Steve Earle just before he fell completely over the deep end. Normally, that might not be a bad thing. People like Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan have actually lost thier spark once they cleaned up. Sad to say, but some of the greatest music of all time comes from the drug addicted, including Jerry Garcia, Carlos Santana, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.
But, the problem with Earle is that he may have been too far gone. The other guys kept it under control and let it out in their music. Earle is paranoid and edgy.
