Saffire is a wonderful blues group. Many, if not most, of the songs have been written by Gaye Adegbalola. Like any good blues, they range from incisive social commentary to just plain fun.
A must for any blues fan, and particularly for women who love the blues.
Release Date April 20, 1999
Let me first say that I do NOT generally like "live" albums. But, this is fantastic. I am a huge Tab Benoit fan and this CD is one of his best. According to Tab, he does not try to blow you away; he creates a "feeling" and lets the music flow from that feeling. Thats exactly what happens here. Tab's brand of blues is peppered with cajun hot sauce without sounding campy or silly. The highs are high and the lows are oh so low. All of his CDs have a "live" feel to them; this one also has an audience. Its just great music .

I love the telecaster, and AC really rips it up here. You can just feel AC's emotion with each screaming note. It's nice to hear a recording that isn't so polished, but beautifully spontaneous.

Actually, I own the Italian edition of the CD, which starts with Monterey set (last 5 numbers of this CD) instead of the Reinessance club (LA) set (everything else).
The great, flexible and very suggestive vocal of Jimmy Witherspoon (Spoon) is in the all-stars jazz company in both sets; the mighty tenor of Ben Webster and sensitive but explosive drumming of Mel Lewis connect the sessions (both concerts were held in 1959). On the Reneissance club set The Spoon is joined by a great youngster Gerry Mulligan, who has once again proved how capable he was of working with older musicians, Jimmy Rowles on piano and Leroy Vinegar on bass and it's quite obvious that both the singer and the players now how to merge jazz and blues.

Here is the legendary Albert King demonstrating why he managed to influence artists like Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton. If the word "stinging" applies to blues playing, then let it settle-in here: Stormy Monday Blues, I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town, a couple of numbers associated with other "Kings", San-Hozay (Freddie King) and You Upset Me Baby (B. B. King).
San Hozay (wish they kept that one up for at least four minutes!), Crosscut Saw and Oo-ee-Baby (the closer) are uptempo and are as cleanly performed as they are mixed. To me, blues *today* is a bit bottom-heavy, and the lead vocal lacks presence. Listen to this historic set and learn what a true blues set and *recording* should sound like.

ROY BUCHANAN has been described as `The greatest unknown guitarist in the world'. He never had the deserved recognition until he passed away. It is very difficult to make up a list of the top guitarist in the world of Blues and rock music but for me Roy is one of the best guitarist in the world together with a selected list of luminaries like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, T-Bone Walker, Freddie King, Ronnie Earl, Magic Sam, Magic Slim, Elvin Bishop, Tinsley Ellis, Dave Specter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Otis Rush or Duke Robillard among others, I also think is good to know than Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck ask Roy that he explained something to them about his accuracy technic.
`LIVE IN JAPAN' is another of his great records, It is worth ... Read More:
