Ana! Live in Amsterdam

Very nice CD, it brings you that nice and intimate atmosphere of a live music club. Ana popovic is an excellent guitarist with a great voice and a really good backing band. It's not a pure blues, it's not a pure rock, nor the pure jazz. It is a perfect mix of each of them. I think she is on top of the blues-rock musical scene today.
I've seen her in a live gig and I absolutely do recommend you to do the same if you ever get the chance.
Five stars from me here.

I read about these concerts in an interview with Bonnie Raitt. I was really surprised with the sound quality on these CDs as well as the broad cross section of artists. I consider this an essential purchase for all blues afficionados as it contains performances by nearly all of the classic bluesmen

Buddy Guy embraced many different styles and sounds throughout his career. His Gibson sound during his collaboration with Junior Wells is the one that appeals the most to me, and if you are into Buddy Guy stuff I am sure you will appreciate this album.

A very energetic sound as the title of the album suggests, and it would really help you appreciate Buddy's roots from Chicago and Muddy Waters band all the way to his style today. In this album Buddy does not use overdrive as much and there aren't as many overbends as he uses these days. It's just pure, plain Chicago style blues that will give you the chills.

Lonnie Brooks is one of the BEST! If you enjoy real up beat blues you will LOVE this!!! I bought 5 more of his CD's after this one. Highly recommend all of his music he is really fabulous. You won't be sorry both my husband and I have truly enjoyed Lonnie's work. You will find yourself turning up the volume and dancing as you become addicted to this man's music.

I'm not sure if this is the same performance my husband and I were fortunate enough to be in the audience for. It was for "Blues In The Schools" at County Hall in Charleston, SC. It has to have been a long time ago, because County Hall no longer exists. It was replaced many years ago by an auditorium and now a Performing Arts Center and a Coliseum. We just don't get the same kinds of performers there that we prefer. So I rely on my CDs. I can't remember the date; one of my children was in the High School band and this performance was designed for introducing youngsters to this genre' of music. I think it was great. For a Hopkins fan or a music historian this set is fantastic. Sam Hopkins was a master story-teller - period - and there is a lot of spoken material that inter-weaves his personal history, regional blues history, and general reflections from a different time and a predominantly rural black culture. Having grown up in the rural South as a small boy, I sat at the feet of such story tellers for hours transformed by their spell. That said, if one only wants to listen to Sam Hopkins's music, there are better recordings or at least better quality recordings and one can obtain a suitable collection for less dough. This is a must-have set for a special sub-genre of enthusiasts and for them it is a rare treasure, indeed.
