Jimmy Reed recorded for the Vee-Jay label for most of his career. Vee-Jay has been out of business since the mid-1960's, and Jimmy Reed's catalogue has been in disrepair for years. This CD represents a great chance to hear Jimmy Reed at his wonderful best. Jimmy Reed was an established artist at the peak of his powers when this album was recorded. Another good choice would be "The Best Of Jimmy Reed" on the GNP label I believe.
"Carnegie Hall" is not a recording of a live performance. Jimmy Reed is playing previously recorded material in a recording studio. Jimmy Reed appeared at Carnegie Hall, and Vee-Jay wanted to capitalize on the prestigious name association. Amazon describes Jimmy Reed as selling more records than B. ... Read More:

When this Double LP was released way back in 1973, it had a bit of an impact in:"Jerry-Land". Translation: It was like Moses bringing the Tablets down...We, had 2 Records of Live Jerry, at last!
Vol. 2 of "Live at the Keystone" is the Second Part of that Original Double Record, and it's The best Part. Jerry & Merl are outta the Gate with: "That's All Right Mama" at a Breakness Pace. It sounds like a Boot-Stompin' Show opener, and what comes to Life on this Re-Master, is the Bass Guitar of John Kahn, he has been brought-up in the Mix and is much more in the Fore-Front here....Kahn is Incredible! The Jazz Standard: "My Funny Valentine" at 18 Minutes is Quite an Musical Journey, Jerry's Amazing Solo's come from Sideways and they ... Read More:

I'm not sure if this is the same performance my husband and I were fortunate enough to be in the audience for. It was for "Blues In The Schools" at County Hall in Charleston, SC. It has to have been a long time ago, because County Hall no longer exists. It was replaced many years ago by an auditorium and now a Performing Arts Center and a Coliseum. We just don't get the same kinds of performers there that we prefer. So I rely on my CDs. I can't remember the date; one of my children was in the High School band and this performance was designed for introducing youngsters to this genre' of music. I think it was great. I don't remember the profanity, so this probably isn't the one, since there were plenty of school kids in the audience. ... Read More:

Forget all of this band's studio albums, this is the real deal. Like many blues bands Indigenous home is on the stage and their studio albums don't seem to capture just what they are capable of in a live setting. I've had the pleasure of seeing Indigenous live twice and they are well worth the price of admission if they ever come to your town. This album was recorded live in the studio in front of a small audience and does a very good job of capturing the band's live sound. Guitarist Mato Manji is the star here and comes off like a cross between Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. Some of the studio songs on the band's debut album are lengthened out here into all out jams which really give Mato and the band a chance to spread their wings. ... Read More:

For a Hopkins fan or a music historian this set is fantastic. Sam Hopkins was a master story-teller - period - and there is a lot of spoken material that inter-weaves his personal history, regional blues history, and general reflections from a different time and a predominantly rural black culture. Having grown up in the rural South as a small boy, I sat at the feet of such story tellers for hours transformed by their spell. That said, if one only wants to listen to Sam Hopkins's music, there are better recordings or at least better quality recordings and one can obtain a suitable collection for less dough. This is a must-have set for a special sub-genre of enthusiasts and for them it is a rare treasure, indeed.

Get the CD. Delbert McClinton's a strong blue eyed soul singer. This live CD's got some serious rocked out blues. The backup band's great, instrumentation is solid. Plus, the engineering's very good, you get just enough 'live' feel without an overflow of the annoying sussurrus from the audience.
Favorites:
"Shaky Ground" okay, I love every version of this song, this one's no exception
"B Movie Boxcar Blues" I heard this song first on this CD and just could not get it off repeat. Great tale of a traveling man's escapades.
"Going back to Louisiana" another great blues standard.

I've always been an admirer of Roy Rogers - and I love slide guitar blues - a few of the current best purveyors being Johnny Winter, Sonny Landreth, Rory Block, John Mooney, Dave Hole, and Robert Randolph (pedal steel). Previously, some of Rogers' studio work has been a bit sterile, and sometimes his vocals can be wearing. However, in this case, Roy Rogers has set the standard in the warm, live setting of the Sierra Nevada Brewery "Big Room". All of the interaction with his longtime partner, Norton Buffalo, and the Delta Rhythm Kings, and the audience getting into it, make for an exciting listen. His slide guitar really shimmers and shakes, and all of the cuts (except for one), which were previously recorded on his other albums, really benefit from this live presentation. ... Read More:
