Enjoyed the enthusiastic blue-sy voice and excellent piano! The quality was amazing and I'd buy this one AGAIN and AGAIN!! I especially enjoyed Queen of the 88's, a great boogie beat! It's an incredible 9 minutes long at least! I hope to see Kelley Live in concert soon.
Release Date October 15, 1996
Frank "Son" Seals performs a handful of his best songs on this 1996 live album, including "Your Love Is Like A Cancer", "Every Goodbye Ain't Gone", and "Don't Pick Me For Your Fool".
The sound is very good, and Seals plays some gritty guitar licks, backed by a small horn section. All good, eh?
Well, I know that last bit won't be to everybody's liking, and the trumpet which pops up here and there grates on my nerves as well. But that's a minor quibble, and most of the time you don't even notice it...Seals' guitar and his gruff voice is firmly in control, and fans should certainly enjoy this album. I wouldn't recommend it as the place to start, however; little things the synthetic sounding organ and the grotesque flute solo which marrs ... Read More:

This magnificent live recording of the great New Orleans pianist Tuts Washington is a classic in every sense of the word. The music is of the highest quality; the setting - on stage at Tipitina's - is historically, culturally and historically pivotal....and,the ambience is about as funky as it is possible to get. The sound quality is far from hi-fi. Washington performs on an old, beat-up piano which is seriously out of tune, but that only adds to the atmosphere, and enhances the listening experience. In many ways, this record is far better than the "...Piano Professor" cd from Rounder, especially when the elements mentioned above are taken into consideration. Listening to this cd is like taking a giant leap into a lost period in time - which still is close ... Read More:

This cleanly recorded, live set from Taj Mahal backed by the excellent, tight Phantom Blues Band, blends all sorts of musical flavors into a refined amalgam. The strain, stress, and anguish that make too many forays into contemporary blues a sure-fire ticket for a migraine are cast aside for grace, craft, and smoothness. On the other hand, there is enough edge here to add texture. In many ways, the energy, vibe, and diversity here remind me of the superb but obscure "Rust" by Kevin Brown, must more so than the largely sterile renderings from say Eric Clapton.
Everything comes together without sounding contrived or forced, and Taj Mahal, as always, marches to his own drum beat (well, actually some snappy percussion work from Tony Braunagel). Mick ... Read More:

So they finally went back and remastered the muddy audio on this classic album! The new sound is fantastic -- clear as a bell. Sadly, while the audio was being cleaned up, no one bothered to clean up the very, very sloppy edits (especially in the second half), such as when the second intro of B.B. (why two separate intros, anyway?) gets abruptly chopped off and goes right into a song that from the background crowd noise came at some other point in the show. If you're going to do a live album, the tracks should at least create the illusion of a live show, especially in this digital era when fade-outs and fade-ins are no longer used, and audience applause can be smoothly edited in to create seamless transitions!
The performance is powerful and this is definitely ... Read More:

I have heard of the Fabulous Thunderbirds for years- but never owned any of their music til now. WOW! A High Energy driving band to say the least!
They have an outstanding grasp of blues, rhythm & blues, rockabilly, you name it -they can play it- I highly recommend this for summertime road trips and playing it loudly in the car!
Release Date October 31, 1996
Blues on steroids. If you like blues guitar, this is the cd to have, and the playing meshes perfectly with his near perfect vocal interpretations. He had a good night, probably the best of his career.
