Kentucky Fried Blues Live

CD-Charts > Music > Live Albums
by: Bernard Allison

Release Date May 06, 2003
This is from a live radio broadcast and is about 58 minutes long. It features Allsion's brand of electric blues in a live setting with room for guitar solos and room to stretch out. He covers a few of his dad's tunes here, a Buddy Guy song, and others. If you're a fan of modern electric blues done at pretty high volume, this is topnotch stuff.

New Orleans Piano Wizard: Live!

CD-Charts > Music > Live Albums
by: James Booker

Release Date February 14, 1992
This is just flat-out great music. Booker's best recordings are live, so don't opt for the studio. I think the thing that makes this album great, apart from Booker's virtuoso piano playing and deeply soulful and engaging voice, is the audience. Unfortunately, the vast majority of live Booker recordings sound as if they were performed in front of quite small, and at times seemingly disinterested, crowds. In this European recoding the crowd is attentive and appreciative. I find that Booker fed off that and really belted into these particular tracks. Let Them Talk is a virtual tour-de-force of soul music; vocal expression with a rolling, dynamic piano paving the way. This would probably classify as Booker's best recorded performance. A must have ... Read More:

by: Tinsley Ellis

Release Date June 07, 2005
Apparently Tinsley Ellis has been around for a long time. So have I, but I had never heard of him until my internet radio station began playing his music. I love the blues, especially with a lot of guitar. I had intended to order 2 other CD's, but purchased 2 Tinsley Ellis instead. They're great!

CD-Charts Music : Sonny & Brownie at Sugar Hill

Sonny & Brownie at Sugar Hill

CD-Charts > Music > Live Albums
by: Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee

Release Date July 01, 1991
In the early 1960's San Francisco had a remarkable two block section called the Broadway strip. Here one could find clubs featuring most every ethnic variety of music - except the blues. When Sugar Hill opened in May of 1961, the void was filled. Terry and McGhee had a following in the Bay area from their concerts but now blues fans could see them in a club setting, which let their talent, authenticity, and charisma shine more brightly.

The songs on this disc are all originals (I Got A Little Girl, however, is quite similar to Robert Johnson's I Got A Woman) and, though the duo had played in Europe and many big US cities, show how they dug deep into their souls as they continue to inovate and make each song better. Sometimes the songs ... Read More:

CD-Charts > Music > Live Albums
by: Buddy Guy

Release Date October 09, 2007
Countless legions of blues fans around the world can attest to the greatness of Buddy Guy. If you're a fan that has listened to Buddy's recordings, but have never got to see him live and in person you've been deprived of the "other-worldly" charisma and bond that Buddy magically creates with his audience. Many talented musicians can play, but they don't interact with the crowd. Some don't even open their eyes half the time, and believe it or not, though they like to play, they'd rather play in a recording studio without an audience. Not so for Mr. Buddy Guy! He is not only an unmatched blues singer and guitar player, but he is also an unrivaled entertainer. He paces and prowls from one end of the stage to the next like a caged lion. He constantly makes eye contact ... Read More:

The Last of the Best

CD-Charts > Music > Live Albums
by: The Paul Delay Band

Release Date June 12, 2007
Paul DeLay is one of the tragic, yet classic, personalities of the Northwest blues scene. Before his untimely death, The Big Man touched the life of every person he met. Inspired by St. Louis Jimmy, and Harmonica George Smith, among others, the Pride of Portland was the master of the hard to play Chromatic. This posthumously released CD captures the live energy of one of blues hardest working bands. It's hard to single out any song as definitive, for Paul *always* gave plenty of room for his band mates to shine, Check out the tasty licks of his long-time running partner, guitarist Peter Dammon and barrel house keyboard virtuoso David Vest. Paul DeLay left a legacy of original songwriting, inspired harp-playing and soulful vocals that have left an indelible legacy. ... Read More:

CD-Charts Music : Otis Rush Live and In Concert from San Francisco

Otis Rush Live and In Concert from San Francisco

CD-Charts > Music > Live Albums
by: Otis Rush

Release Date October 17, 2006
This cd is taken from the dvd from Bluesexpress: Otis Rush, live part 1. So nothing new for the Otis Rush fan. The accompanying band is too big giving a too sophisticated feeling. It shows Otis Rush in his later years, still going strong but for an even stronger and more intimate Otis Rush I recommend "Live in Europe", the best album of Otis Rush ever. Also "Live at the Wise Fools pub Chicago" is better then this bluesexpress performance.

CD-Charts > Music > Live Albums
by: Ry Cooder

Release Date May 02, 1994
To be honest, I only like one song on this CD. The rest is pretty bad, in my opinion, with a chorus of black singers and Ry mostly in the background. HOWEVER, the track "Jesus on the Mainline" contains an UNBELIEVABLE and epic slide solo by Ry. This solo (greatest slide playing ever recorded?) makes this an essential disc. Definitely the best guitar playing by Ry this side of A Meeting by the River. Its soo good that this is a must have, even though [I personally think] the rest of the CD pretty much sucks. BUY IT ANYWAYS!!!!
