This is from a live radio broadcast and is about 58 minutes long. It features Allsion's brand of electric blues in a live setting with room for guitar solos and room to stretch out. He covers a few of his dad's tunes here, a Buddy Guy song, and others. If you're a fan of modern electric blues done at pretty high volume, this is topnotch stuff.

This is just flat-out great music. Booker's best recordings are live, so don't opt for the studio. I think the thing that makes this album great, apart from Booker's virtuoso piano playing and deeply soulful and engaging voice, is the audience. Unfortunately, the vast majority of live Booker recordings sound as if they were performed in front of quite small, and at times seemingly disinterested, crowds. In this European recoding the crowd is attentive and appreciative. I find that Booker fed off that and really belted into these particular tracks. Let Them Talk is a virtual tour-de-force of soul music; vocal expression with a rolling, dynamic piano paving the way. This would probably classify as Booker's best recorded performance. mannish boys, always pumping out the blues. this edition of the mannish boys has kid ramos on guitar. you know right there that you are going to get some sweet sounds. live is good.

Apparently Tinsley Ellis has been around for a long time. So have I, but I had never heard of him until my internet radio station began playing his music. I love the blues, especially with a lot of guitar. I had intended to order 2 other CD's, but purchased 2 Tinsley Ellis instead. They're great!

In the early 1960's San Francisco had a remarkable two block section called the Broadway strip. Here one could find clubs featuring most every ethnic variety of music - except the blues. When Sugar Hill opened in May of 1961, the void was filled. Terry and McGhee had a following in the Bay area from their concerts but now blues fans could see them in a club setting, which let their talent, authenticity, and charisma shine more brightly.

This cd is taken from the dvd from Bluesexpress: Otis Rush, live part 1. So nothing new for the Otis Rush fan. The accompanying band is too big giving a too sophisticated feeling. It shows Otis Rush in his later years, still going strong but for an even stronger and more intimate Otis Rush I recommend "Live in Europe", the best album of Otis Rush ever. Also "Live at the Wise Fools pub Chicago" is better then this bluesexpress performance.

To be honest, I only like one song on this CD. The rest is pretty bad, in my opinion, with a chorus of black singers and Ry mostly in the background. HOWEVER, the track "Jesus on the Mainline" contains an UNBELIEVABLE and epic slide solo by Ry. This solo (greatest slide playing ever recorded?) makes this an essential disc. Definitely the best guitar playing by Ry this side of A Meeting by the River. Its soo good that this is a must have, even though [I personally think] the rest of the CD pretty much sucks. BUY IT ANYWAYS!!!!
