The Toys are a beautiful girl group from the mid-1960's. My favorite one from the Toys is "A Lover's Concerto". I may not had been around when it was hit in late 1965. I recall listening to it as a kid in late 1985 on the radio. I found it a very nice song. I didn't know who they were at all. In late 2000 (by then 15 years later), that's when I found it was the Toys. I bought the Toys CD in late 2001. The only one around in the Milwaukee Metro Area. I'm so glad to have it in the archives. There are no decent girl groups in recent years. Only one for 2006/2007 would be Cherish (Do It To It and Unappreciated). That's it. The Toys and others will do until a good girl group come out.

I was only 12 years old in 1962, but I would give anything to have been there on this night. For me, it's not only Tony at the height of his vocal powers, but more importantly, firmly taking the step from a popular singer to the jazz master he is today ... a step he started years earlier with Cloud 7, but cemented on that night.

There must be a story behind this 2003 Laura Nyro recording, because its place in the artists catalog is almost non-existant. One year previous to these selections hitting the shelves, the Rounder label released a two disc compendium of Laura solo and with her harmony group in 1993 and 1994, a collection that far outshines the limited production tendered here. And unless there was something wrong with other songs performed for this reserved Japanese audience, one also wonders why only ten tracks, totalling less than thirty minutes, are offered. As far as I can tell there are only two significant differences between this Laura-solo-live and the four other Laura-solo-live releases ('At the Bottom Line', 'On Mountain Stage', 'At the Fillmore' and ... The mailman just rang the doorbell...i was expecting the phone company...and i was so surprised to receive this CD as a gift that i almost broke the cover trying to open it!!! [Yo record companies---
what's with that annoying steel-like tape y'all be putting on top?]
i heard John Hall doing "Sarah Smile" on the Howard Stern show about a month ago and immediately googled the chord changes...completely forgot how good that song sounded, THEN googled up some videos for the song because i wasn't gonna get a Hall & Oates CD for what might prove to be a passing fancy, and it was THEN i discovered Monte Montgomery.
Figures he's from Austin...the last Hendrix hailed from those parts, but unlike SRV Monte takes the guitar ... Read More:

This has some great versions of his songs recorded in a live nightclub setting. I really like the band and background singers.
Release Date July 20, 1993
Glen Frey is best known as a founding member of The Eagles and a songwriter who wrote and sang some of the band's most popular songs. Frey also had a successful solo career in the 80's with several songs that got significant radio airplay during the decade. "Live" is a very nice live album that covers both Frey's Eagles and solo years wrapped up into one neat package. Frey uses a large 12 piece band on this one which really gives the songs a full sound. The album was recorded in Dublin Ireland on the "Strange Weather" tour. Overall this is a nice pleasant album. Frey does 6 Eagles classics, "Peaceful Easy Feeling", "New Kid In Town", "Lying' Eyes" , "Take It Easy", "Heartache Tonight", and "Desperado". The lead vocals on "Desperado" were originally done by ... Read More:

adding my 2 cents worth: this is a stunning, fabulous and brilliant album. it's like the new millennium version of: "if I could only remember my name"
the sister-album.
hand-in-hand.
a book-end.
what a incredible band.
Jeff Pevar's guitar playing is stunning.
Crosby's voice is powerful and beautiful.
the harmonies tight and melodious.
new songs, old songs dressed up in new arrangements: a totally satisfying brew of hot blooded soul catching tunes.
I started off listening to "Cowboy Movie" 1st. thinking: "if they pull this off, they are onto something"...well they more than passed my arms folded gruff expectations...then I heard: almost cut my hair". I was sold...
listening to the new songs threw me happily over ... Read More:

An absolutely first-rate performance, probably the last time the original Beach Boys played together, including Bruce Johnston. I never tire of this music, as uplifting today as ever. The music is so clear for a live recording that at first I thought it was a studio dub, but then I remembered reading that their amps went directly into the sound board as opposed to being miked individually. Just great, great, great.

On the liner notes to the CD, Ms. Naylor thanks the Plush Room for giving her the opportunity "..to show the world how much I love to sing." It's clear that she does, and enjoys every minute of it. Lots of Jazz standards we have all heard hundreds of times before, but she makes them well worth another listen. She is backed by an excellent band; there are several exquisite piano solos throughout the record. This is a well-recorded live CD; it puts you right in the middle of the proverbial smoky jazz club. If you are a straight-ahead Jazz fan, this is the CD for you. Mix up the martinis, sit back, and enjoy.

Recorded in 1977, "Live at Sidney Opera House" is an amazing John Denver's live. Denver was "really high": in 1977 made some changes in his music (with "i want to live") and he also added Burton, Hardin and Blaine to his crew. The result, in november, was this memorable concert.
Acoustic and insturmental arrangements are simply unique (better than "an evening with JD") and perfect female voices "support" all the songs. Yes, maybe only 15 songs are a little bit few and maybe some hits are missing (where are "I'd rather be a cowboy" or "Matthew"?)... But you still have JD' sketches with the audience and a lot of good music in amazing versions...! A quite-rare MUST HAVE!
TOP: Rocky Mountain High and Calypso (incredible arrangements!!!)
FLOP: Take Me Home, Country Roads (not a great version) ... Read More:
