This live set is the best of the many released soundboard recording from the Tikki Time Tour. The set list is probably the most interesting and Jimmy and the Coral Reefers sound like they are having a great time in Hawaii. The negative reviewers concentrate on the sound quality, but you have to remember this is recorded from the soundboard. If you want a perfect sounding live disc from Buffett then pick up one of his three other discs, particulary "Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays" which is my favorite. Like that disc, Live in Hawaii is a fun listen, even with the imperfections. I was disappointed that the DVD wasn't longer, but I considered it a bonus anyway. The other complaint is that Jimmy released several live sets form the same ... Read More:

Steve Miller Band live is with no doubt the best recording of a live performance I have ever heard.I,m not saying that all of the other LIVE recordings we have loved for years are not as good of a music experience, such as ALLMAN BROS filmore,BOB seager,FRAMPTON.What I,m saying is this STEVE MILLER is by far the best example of how a live recording should sound. After working in the live music business for 15 years I heard many types or styles of live mixing,S m LIVE is the best.Just listen you can hear the mixing changes as they should be,everything or I should say all of the instruments have their position in the mix and then BAMM another lead jumps out to the front of the mix or MR> buffalo with his dynamic harp,it just seems each feature of the ... Fantastic comeback by the boys who get it done. Meticulous, well thought out and played magnificently. Looking sharp as usual, Joe and company roll out the hits (new and old). If ya wanna look sharp, get this CD. You will not be disappointed. "Beat crazy" "fools in love" and "fairy dust" are worth the price of admission alone. Operators are standing by.

If you ever get the chance to see John Pizzarelli live, do it. You won't regret it. My best friend & I saw him a couple months ago - he finally came to AZ - and we got to meet John briefly after the show. He's a totally cool guy, really down to earth.
So I've owned most of Pizzarelli's albums over the last 5-10 years and I'm actually so-so on a few of them. Some are definitely better than others; but after awhile, they've all sort of blended together for me. John is almost too prolific; it seems like he turns out a new CD every 6 months.
So that is why I like this 'Live at Birdland' best. It really shows off a different side of John Pizzarelli vs. what you don't get on his many studio albums. The live set is a lot funner, ... Read More:

I wouldn't try to argue that this is the best possible example of Ella's singing or of Duke's orchestral work... I would also like to point that it is a pitty there's no more interaction of the two giants (Ella performs some songs with her fine Jimmy Jones-led trio ) and that I seem to agree that -somehow- Ella works better with Basie, as one distinguished amazonaut once said on a Ella thread on the amazon discussionns...
In spite of that, the level of this double CD is still very high; not only swinging madly, it is also a nice vehicle to introduce Duke to Ella's fans and vice versa. Ella does both her scatting and her ballad routine, while Duke has some real gems - my favorite is the jubilant musical union of Ray Nance, Ben Webster and Lawrence ... Read More:

This is one of the best "new" surf music CD's even if it isn't the Blue Hawaiins most current. Putting words to the classic "Pipeline" that was originally played by the Chantays is great. The live atmosphere and the smooth music flow are outstanding. OUTSIDE!!!!!

Any fans of Dave Mason or Traffic will be very pleased with this live recording of an accomplished musician. The songs are timeless and there is a good mix of acoustic and electric guitar tracks that will appeal to most listeners of the blues/rock genre. For newcomers to Dave's work this is a fantastic introduction to a master musician. As Dave Mason says, rock and roll is an attitude not an age!

This CD is excellent. Fans of either or both legendary performers will find this CD to be very enjoyable.
Every Johnny Cash song has a story behind it. We can thank the Irish song "Clancy Lowered the Boom" for Cash's song "Don't Take Your Guns to Town". Also, the story Cash tells for Folsom Prison Blues is right in line with how the movie "Walk the Line" tells the story. Willie makes it possible for Cash to perform Folsom Prison Blues at this show because he performs the two 25 second guitar arrangements the in the song. Johnny's incredible baritone voice is as rich and full as ever and you will love it here.
We all know Willie Nelson's songs, the unique sound of his guitar and his voice. This CD also tells you how funny he is. He has a sarcastic humor ... Read More:

I never saw the play, but as a long time Patsy Cline fan, I finally picked up this CD. I was familiar with the Louise Seger story from one of Patsy's biographies, and the monologues by Tere Myers are entertaining. But the real star of this CD is Mandy Barnett's amazing recreation of Patsy Cline.
Barnett has all of Patsy's vocal mannerisms down to a tee...her ability to vocally bear down during key parts of a song, the little "hiccups" applied to certain phrases and of course the yodeling and growling. But more importantly, the very sound of Barnett's voice is startingly close to Patsy's - that rounded quality and velvety feel. There are times on this CD when you would swear you were listening to a long-lost live recording of Patsy. One of the most convincing tracks ... Read More:
