I owned this record in Vinyl already for more than 25 yrs. I rate it among the top 5 live recordings in rock, it's really phenomenal! I decided to buy it in CD, where the sound quality is better and I could get as well several alternate takes as a bonus. It's a must!!

Look at all the other reviews of this disc. They either say "I love Crosby, Stills, and Nash's music, so I love this" or they say "I love Stephen Stills' music, so I love this." But what would you say if you didn't already know this music from its later, more polished versions? You'd hear a good but occasionally sloppy guitarist singing folky, country-tinged songs, about half of them of very good quality. Some of these songs didn't show up in his later records for a good reason: they're dull. These demo versions of "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" and "Helplessly Hoping" are well worth a listen, but "Wooden Ships" has often been performed better.

This review is for the 2003 remastered version. I have owned the original CDs for The Last Waltz for years now. I just upgraded to the remastered version and the fidelity is incredible. It was well worth the money to get this concert on a CD on which the quality of the fidelity is equal to the music The Band and its musical guests performed at this Thanksgiving Day concert. It even makes up for the fact that I gave my tickets to The Last Waltz to a friend so I could keep a Thanksgiving dinner date with my Dad and his girlfriend. Oh well. Live and learn. 8-)

Humble Pie Performance Rockin' The Fillmore is the first best-ever live album to come out of the double lp live albums of the seventies. This album is pure rock and roll ecstacy and is without peer. Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band album sounds like a bunch of pansys next to this masterpiece. Peter Frampton's Frampton Comes Alive would never have happened had it not been for Rockin' the Fillmore, on which he played a vital role. This is rock and roll at its best. Powerful guitar, powerful singing, and a rock solid and powerful band.

This is the first McMurtry album you should buy. It's got most of his classics performed perfectly. McMurtry's family literary humor shines through in "Choctaw Bingo" and "60 Acres", while his songwriting prowess is more clearly defined in "No More Buffalo" and "I'm not from here". Classic songs abound on this album. McMurtry covers Townes Van Zandt's beautiful "Rex's Blues", to close out an album filled to the brim with great live music, clocking in near 80 minutes. You really get your money's worth with this pick-up.

Like everyone else, Bruce has the "best live show ever". And if this and Live 1975/1985 are any indication, he deserves that reputation. Think "sheer, combustible energy". So if the bombastic arrangements of Born to Run weren't to your tastes (though they certainly are to mine!), this album is for you. For instance, "Thunder Road" becomes a bare-bones piano/harmonica ballad, and it works very well. And how about that energy? Well, Clarence Clemons manages to take the place of the entire horn section on "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out", which is also given a more prominent guitar part, and "Spirit in the Night" becomes a swinging, nervy dynamo. The SYR releases have been the mroe interesting ones of SonicYouth's output lately. Thsi at the same time as their mainstream stuff has become more "listenable". Anyway this is a great piece from them again improvising with amongst others Merzbow at the Roskilde festival. It is in the continuation of thier early stuff by adds other instruments which brigs quite a bit of positive change. At least with the SYR stuff the have allowed themselves not to be kept within the confines of their rather well-defined sound and genre.
