A friend of mine asked me to sell some used CD's for her on Ebay, and this was one of them. I decided (for some reason) to give it a listen as I was headed out the door one Sunday afternoon. My attitude was "Let me hear how much this sucks". After all, Jimmy Page, Black Crowes...yeah OK this is gonna suck like a vacuum cleaner.
I came home, called my friend and asked if I could keep this one for myself. Yes, it's that good. Simply put the energy of this performance via the Black Crowes is amazing, and then you add Page to the mix and you have one hot band. I would have bet that no way could this band measure up to Led Zeppelin, but they come mighty close for my money.
Another point is the sound...it literally jumps ... Read More:

Gosh what a song. and to think that it was played live would anyone ever even think of doing this today. i simply adore this song and have even gone so far as to sing the song and read the narration accapella to a group of children at a summer camp i worked at. my little brother liked it so much i had to make him a version on cassette so he could play it in his kiddy tape player.
id like to mention the different versions of the song available.
the version i am reviewing here is i think the best version. at 40 minutes it is the full length containing narration, and orchestra, and a chorus. it tells the tale and illustrates it magnificently.
but a rather common version which i heard first and mistakenly bought ... Read More:

If you like Neil, this is one of his best, hands down. Star Wars roadies, huge speaker setups, classic songs both acoustic and electric. Probably the pinnacle of Rock & Roll. Buy this immediately if your a Neil fan. 5 STARS!!

I also think this is overrated. Get YCDTOSA Vol 2 instead. 3 of the tracks are faded out. This is a remastered disc; the rest of those tracks should have been included when the 2lp set was released on CD. Also, Cheepnis was remixed, and it stands out from the rest of the disc by how much worse the sound is. I have no idea why they did that. The original is much better. Other than that, good performances and sound quality. But the remaster should have fixed those problems.

Live At Carnegie Hall was recorded on October 4, 1984 (one day after Stevie's thirtieth birthday), and is a highlight of Stevie's early days with his band, Double Trouble. There are also guest appearances by John Hammond, Jimmie Vaughan, Dr. John, vocalist Angela Strehli (who sings an enthusiastic lead vocal on C.O.D.), and the Roomful Of Blues horn section. The performance is an intimate, but rousing, blues celebration of Stevie's birthday. At the end of the night, Stevie says, "Thank you very much for making this my best birthday ever...forever!". Musically, you couldn't ask for better. The sound and production are smart, and the performances are clean and inspired (that's an understatement on some of the songs!). The absolute best recording ever of Cold Shot is here, ... Read More:

"Get yer ya yas out " was such a significant live album but never recognised . It was a magificent collection of tracks that had all theelements you feel when you are there - LIVE. Matt Taylor's guitar was superb on Sympathy for the Devil and was a leap abovethe work of Brian Jones . I cannot getthis CD out of my car and my 12 year old son is as obsessive about this album as I am . Cannot help myself .Don't deny yourself- try it.

i am not embarrassed to say i am one of grateful dead's biggest and long time fans. all things considered, this may be their best album. it shows the group as they really were; beyond belief, and a complete mess , sometimes in the same song. the 'beyond' parts make the experience more than worth the sloppiness and there are some chill inducing beyondo highs here. you dead lovers know what i mean. this is the album i always thought [hoped] they would release, but i believe they got cold feat, and scrubbed them up best they could. but we all knew better. for instance, when the dead would start a song that was special [i know; very subjective] like st stephen, the crowd would go nuts on that first note, but on other albums, what do you know, no crowd! not here, though. if you have been there, ...
