I heard this album a few months ago on the inflight entertainment of a long flight I was on. I'd heard most of what else was on display and wanted something new. Well, first thing I decided on listening to it was that I was going to get every other album of his. It is fantastic!
Manu Chao is of French/Spanish origin, and sings in both languages, sometimes in English also. His music is generally upbeat, party music with influences of Punk, Ska, and even Polka, and political lyrical undertones. "La Radiolina" is Italian for small radio.
Opening is the rousing Polka tinged "13 dias". "Tristeza Maleza" is a bouncy rocker with electronic flourishes and lyrics that mention George Bush (I have a hunch it's not too flattering, ... Read More:

This is my first album for Luciana Souza and I am well impressed. Smooth voice; Smooth re composition for each song, James Taylor nicely adding his lovely voice on "Never die Young"; This album is a bouquet of nice songs of Sting, James Taylor, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Brazilian Bossa Nova? No.
Bossa Nova Luciana Souza's style? Absolutely.
Highly recommended for all the smooth Jazz, Smooth Rock and Bossa Nova lovers, who are into some great music, composed by all the artists I mentioned above, played, twisted and sang in an absolutely lovely and charming way.
4 stars or 5 are well deserved.
Other well recommended album of a similar great style:
Joni Mitchell: Turbulent Indigo

Sweet, elegant and powerful voice. Beautiful songs. You don't have to understand portuguese to feel the meaning of these 'fados'.

I love classic Cumbia, and I love classic Garage rock. SO Im thrilled to discover this intersection of styles. THe peruvian folk meoldies are an added bonus. Candy!
Thanks to whoever hunted down this style. It's great listening music and great dance music. highly recommended
I had always been reluctant to buy a Julieta Venegas' album, I don't think of her as a great lyricist nor a great musician. However, there's always something about her songs, they all have a catchy phrase or chorus that you will end up humming regardless if you like the song or not. Something I did admire is that she is an artist who likes to take risks, either by playing instruments you don't usually hear in a pop song or by making duets with the most unexpected artists; it seems to me she is authentic in her musical proposal.
I recently had the chance to watch her Mtv Unplugged that aired on cable and I just loved it. The arrangements, the guest stars and her voice, this was indeed her best time and her moment to have an unplugged. ... Read More:

I have liked Mana for years, but never really got into them as much as I have recently. I started downloading entire albums recently (rather than piecemeal via p2p) and this one does not disappoint. It contains one of my favorites, "Labios Compartidos", as well as several other awesome songs in true Mana fashion. While this is not my favorite album (that would be Cuando Los Angeles Lloran), it is great nonetheless and a must for any Mana fan. Even if you are just interested in Spanish rock, this is a good album to have. And for less than $10 to download, it's not too big of a risk.
