1956 found me in the U.S. Navy and a fellow shipmate from Clovis, NM had two LP's of Sabicas. We listened to them for the two and a half years we spent in the USS Shangri-La. Those years made me a Sabicas fan and I was delighted to find Flamenco on Fire at Amazon. If you have never experienced Sabicas, and you love spanish quitar, then try Flamenco on Fire.

Amr Diab is legendary in the Maghreb. His music is omnipresent, and never seems to grow old. Fresh, exotic, stimulating, both danceable and listenable, I couldn't recommend it more highly. Millions worldwide would agree! My favourite tracks: Awedony (a HUGE hit in the late 90's), Tamally Maak, and Nour El Ain. Buy this CD and find out for yourself!

Bought this as an lp when it was out. Fantastic that it's on cd. Follows Julio through the majority of his European hits. You can't help but feel as though you are somewhere in the sun when it's playing. I believe that they are all originals with Un Canto A Galicia (his 1972 Number 1 hit in Holland ,21 weeks) and Quereme Mucho, (his 1979 Number 1 hit) amongst the many great songs. Light years before he was popular in uk. You don't have to understand the language to appreciate the songs. If you want an album by Julio, get this one. You won't be disappointed.

This album was my first experience with Manu Chao. The style is simultaneously simple and complex. From a musical standpoint, the instrumentation is primarily acoustic with simple rhythms, but lyrically and conceptually, nothing is simplistic about this masterpiece. Various audio and linguistic themes weave their way through the work, giving the listener the experience of time suspension much like that of an insomniac in a sedated state of relaxed almost-sleep where thoughts almost form, transform into other thoughts, and then evaporate only to be replaced by new thoughts.

Manu Chao employs a unique mixture of languages which form a drifting and ever changing cultural context. I've never heard anything like it.

While Ottmar's playing is not flamenco guitar, I play flamenco guitar and I love Ottmar's playing. I believe that La Luna, for example, is a well composed piece of music. I am tired of the bickering between traditional and non-traditional flamenco stylists, just as I am weary of the bickering between traditional bluegrass and "new-grass" players. In the end it is about the music. Liebert has a wide audience while many traditional flamenco musicians could not get an audience if they paid for one.

That said, one can argue all day about compas, duende, flamenco guitars made in Spain versus Ottmar's clearly wonderful DeVoe and Ottmar's audience will still follow him. Are they stupid because they do not follow the duende or passion of your god, or ... Read More:

I usually listen to music on random play, shuffling through 6 CD's in a carousel CD player. Not this one! I love it so much, it always stands alone, sometimes on the repeat mode for consecutive multiple listens. After seeing "Kill Bill", I fell in love with the soundtrack, but had no idea this CD existed until recently. Every track is outstanding, the arrangements are lush, the recording quality is excellent, and the musicianship is off the chain. This CD never fails to put a smile on my face and a song in my heart. Please, Robert Rodriguez, MORE of Chingon! MORE MORE MORE!
