This is a xmas cd that I bought over 10 years ago. This is one of two of the best xmas cds that I own. Even though all of the artist were before my time, I still enjoy this cd. I even bought one for my Mother a few years back. One more thing, track #18, "Frosty The Snowman" by "The Trailblazers" does not sound like a rhythm & blues song. That's my only complaint. (When making a backup of this CD, I omitted track #18.

Another in this series that I cannot get enough of. This wouldn't be the first post-war west coast blues cd I'd buy, but VERY rewarding for someone who has already collected all of the "big names" of the era.

All you have to do is imagine what a honeydripper feels like or means to you. The title could not be more apt, nor the music more symbiotic to the name. Just start dancing, and the groove will find you!

I have long been a fan of Roomful of Blues and have some of their other cds. I will admit that when Sugar Ray left , I did not think I would still like them with a new singer. Was I wrong! I like them even better now. The main reason I like it so much is the amazing voice of Mac Odom. Where has he been hiding I want to know! I predict he will be a big name some day. He wrote Back Street Blues and it is a good tune. I like every song on the cd. I bought it and have listened to it so many times I'll probably wear it out. The band is great too of course. Tight horn section, good guitar....and that VOICE.He has such a vocal range--fromm deep and smooth and sexy to high notes. Makes for one rockin' cd and I love the slow tunes too. But you ... This is a rare opportunity to hear hugely famous influencers and entertainers of mid 20th Century music actually doing the real work: the kind of stuff that goes on behind the scenes for more hours in their lives than anything else, including sleeping! What we usually see as paying customers is the resultant performance, but this window into the atmosphere of a jam session must be heard. Any instrumentalist who improvises, from whatever genre, and whether they are amateur or professional, will feel right at home with this. They'll be hugely gratified to feel how the special indescribable pleasure and dynamics of jam session is just the same for improvisers the world over regardless of time or greatness. And for everyone - how would you like to ... Read More:

Born on September 16, 1931 in El Campo, Texas, Littlefield's biggest claim to fame as a recording artist ironically didn't make the charts. That was 1952's K.C. Lovin', a Leiber And Stoller-penned ditty he recorded for the Federal label and which, seven years later, would become a # 1 Billboard Pop Hot 100/R&B smash for Wilbert Harrison as Kansas City.
Before that, while with Modern Records, he had had a # 3 R&B hit with It's Midnight (No Place To Go) and a # 5 with Farewell - both in 1949 - and in 1951 returned to those charts with I've Been Lost, billed to Little Willie Littlefield and Little Lora Wiggins.
The maddening thing is that, while It's Midnight and I've Been Lost are at least included in this compilation from the usually ... Read More:

ruth brown should be remembered more. she inspired a lot of the ladies that we hear more about. her influence is wonderfully displayed here. she is also one of the forerunners of that rock 'n' roll sound. my favorite from her is DADDY DADDY as well as MAMA HE TREATS YOUR DAUGHTER MEAN. you can hear quite a bit of her in etta james for example. i have also heard other female artists list ms. brown as one of their major influences. she is the true queen of rhythm and blues. listen to this, and you will see why she has more than earned that title. gone but not forgotten...............................................................
