It expands your knowledge of artists and their music. This cd is no exception. I prefer the music of Rodgers & Hart to Rodgers and Hammerstein. Listen to some sound clips and decide for yourself- you won't be dissapointed.

"Big Easy Boogie" is a great companion album to the Fats Domino Tribute CD. I've heard Mitch before and really liked the New Orleans influences in his music so I decided to give this one a try. I was not disappointed, in fact, I think it will go down as one of my favorite albums this year. The New Orleans style music on this CD really shines through with a good mix of slower tracks like "Back in My Arms Again" and "Heart and Soul to You" and the celebratory street sounds like "I Thought I Heard Satchmo Say" and "Big Easy Boogie". The bouncy "Counting the Days" and "Fallin' for You" have a classic Domino flavor, but Mitch makes them his own, too. One of the cuts, "Crescent City Flyer" really shows Mitch's piano chops. Just listening to this for the first time. Been sadly unaware of Mt Forrest up until now. This is hard swinging bop, with a healthy dollop of the blues. Jimmy's tone reminds me more of Hawk or Ben, but of course there is a heap of Prez in his phrasing - who was unaffected by Lester?

The ballads are fine too. Jimmy does great with "These Follish Things" and "You Go To My Head" ... the rest I'll tell you when I've finished listening!

Don't hesitate. Get it if you like hard swinging jazz.

While more horn-driven and less raw and guitar reliant than other forms of blues, the urban style nonetheless provides its own spectacular highlights, some of the best of which are right here:
Guitar Slim's "The Things That I Used To Do" is a must-have for any uptown blues compilation, and T-Bone Walker's "T-Bone Blues", Big Joe Turner's "Chains Of Love", "Laudromat Blues" by Albert King, and Bobby Bland's "Farther up the Road" are prime examples as well. Otis Rush's classic "I Can't Quit You Baby" is more Chicago blues than urban blues, actually, but it is a welcome addition nonetheless.

I am surprised that Louis Jordan is not more well-known. It could be argued that the Big Band Swing musician is the root of Rock and Roll. "Beans and Cornbread" and "Saturday Night Fish Fry #1" really move.

I am 58 1/2 years old
My favorite music of all time is 50's doo wop and all the great music of the 60's.Oh and my mom's great music from the war years.
Gosh,come to think of it,I love it all !!

There is nothing that compares to these box sets from the 50's rock.
I suggest you get these sets,they are rare and a couple are already very
expensive.Here they are in no particular order.

What a great,great set of music these box sets make.
