Hey there!..., all you hep cats! Another one of the singing big band leader's toe tapping great songs, is on this CD for your listening pleasure. A few familiar ones you may recognize are on this CD. Mr. Calloway has fun with the slow song, "That old black magic," The song, "Hard times," was sung on Cab's radio broadcast in 1940. The song, "The jumping jive," was the song sung in his movie he stared with Ms. Lena Horne, "Stormy weather." The scatting that he does so well, will encourage you to smile while tapping your toes. These songs are a collectable item, and a must own for your jazz collection. I always highly recommend Mr. Cab Calloway's music.

Frankie is one of my favorite artists, and this is my favorite compilation of his work. He was a vaudevillian, a female impersonator, actor, singer, and band leader. He performed bit parts in both Bessie Smith's film short (St. Louis Blues) and Duke Ellington's (Black and Tan Fantasy), which were filmed on the same day, with the same set, same supporting cast and same supporting band (James P. Johnson's). Frankie also performed with Tampa Red and David Cross.
These pieces are in the hokum style, sexually suggestive and jaunty, often performed with truly remarkable jug accompaniment. Frankie is an energetic and enthusiastic performer, accompanying his pieces with yips and cackles. In some of them, he takes on the female role, in ... Read More:

This music is a celebration of womenhood. It transcends any cultural barriers that we may place around one another. Reminding women that we are all one.The pains and pleasures of our love have no racial or ethnic fences. It reminds all of us that our emotions are the fiber that unite our lives. The amazing range that these beautiful queens can voice will send your heart to a happy place. The song themes are as contemporary now as they were when this was recorded. This is a classic of African music, and these singers can be compared to the divas from the United States such as Aretha Franklin,or Diana Ross. Definitely a good pick for anyone who is down to earth and can appreciate goodness and beauty.

JAZZ PIANO ANTHOLOGY * IN THE BEGINNING features superb musicians in equally superlative performances. Points off for audio fidelity on the Waller and the acoustically-recorded Morton tracks. Many sides here are later-career efforts, so the sound is quite good. CD comes with excellent liner notes.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS --
James P. Johnson received little acclaim in his lifetime, although he was known and admired by fellow musicians. Johnson invented the Harlem-stride style later emulated by Fats Waller. The difference though, as Waller was the first to admit, was Johnson was best at it. Waller used to lament that he didn't have as quick a left hand, and that's really what stride is all about.

This is really exciting music from around the early 1040's. Four beautiful voices harmonizing through jazz ballads and fast tempo numbers- fascinating rhythms, pretty guitar solos, neat tempo changes. The songs are all really well written and simple. From what I've heard of the Mills Brothers I see the resembalance only in that they both are jazz vocal groups. The Cats and the Fiddle are much less refined which gives the music more a feeling of excitement and raw emotion (depending on the subject of the song). I was recommended this music a few years ago because the person thought that since I liked the Beach Boys I would like this. Well, I don't exactly see how they pieced that together- although there is a lot of heart in this ... Read More:
