Well now this is one of the best CD's in my collection of over 1,500 CD's. Is it better than Pet Sounds? Sgt Pepper? Herman's Hermits best? well er ...no but this is a great CD.
Buy it now!
Better yet buy all his product and see him live as he is really the hardest working man in show business. Look up Jim Green and the Deligates as they are in this class also...

In my opinion, no other vocal group surpasses their ability to stay on pitch and talent for perfect ensemble work. The Vagabond's recorded work spans only the decade beginning in 1941. Unfortunately, much of their material -- in the studio primarily for Apollo Records and in transcriptions for Standard -- consists of trite pop tunes. This third and final release of their complete recordings covers the remaining 1943 Standard transcriptions. The Vagabonds take an accompanying role in 16 tracks here. Reviewing recently Fats' "live at the Yacht Club" CD,I wrote that it was Fats' only live recording. That was a mistake,but I didn't know this new CD."More radio rarities" consists of two different radio broadcasts : a studio session (tracks 9 to 13) destinated to be used by radios, and live recordings from the Panther Room,Hotel Sherman,in Chicago. The studio session,recorded at NBC studios,NYC,July 5,1938,gives you new versions of some themes Fats used to play frequently: "ain't misbehavin'","the sheik of Araby","handful of keys","hold my hand". "Cab Calloway and His Orchestra, 1937-38" brings together 24 swingin' tracks from one of the great American bands. Superb instrumental and vocal performances perfectly complement each other, transporting the listener back in time to these magical years.

The songs on this CD are at times romantic, sexy, playful, exuberant, or mellow, but always classy. Some of may favorite tracks include "I'm Always in the Mood for You" and "In an Old English Village." Also fun is "Hi-De-Ho Romeo," with its irreverent, yet affectionate reference to William Shakespeare. This is classic American music to be treasured by all.
