I love this CD! I've been listening to it to get my spirit ready for the high holy days and even shared the music with my cantor who wants to incorporate some of the melodies into our services. My favorites are V'Al Kulam and La Yehudim.

I heard Sophie on Desert Island Discs twice this week, yesterday as a guest and earlier in the week David Edgar chose one of her tracks for his Island. Then after listening to 2 more tracks on Women's Hour I have to agree with the Daily Mail she's "primed for solo stardom". The music is unique - intelligent gypsy mixed with cool,haunting and romantic beats. She has you dancing, laughing and crying. As The Telegraph says "If you haven't heard of her, you will". BUY IT, you won't regret it.

You don't have to be Jewish to enjoy Mr. Bikel. No matter what language he sings in, Mr. Bikel is truely a great artist who's talents allow you enjoy and embrace the songs of all the world. I highly recommend this CD for all music lovers.

This is for die-hard fans only, especially if you speak Hebrew. Otherwise, this CD is a cultural footnote and nothing you could actually enjoy listening to. Be warned -- this is nothing whatsoever like Kingsley's other work. The synth music is minimal and incidental, and the focus is on Jewish prayers/songs/something-or-other, all performed by a man who can't sing (or at any rate, whose voice is not compelling).

I went from the high of finding this CD to the low of thinking, "What on earth is this and why did I just waste money on it?" within the first 20 seconds of track 1. Tracks 2, 3, 4, and 12 didn't change my opinion -- it's all the same barely listenable nonsense.

You have been warned...

Don't think that Matisyahu is the only Hasidic Jew with great talent and beat. Rav Shmuel is amazing!!! His songs are funny, upbeat, and not really Jewish themed. I heard him live and he was great. I then bought his CD and it was even better!!! A perfect addtition to your music library. Plus, I loved that the CD case came with a lyrics booklet.

I don't have much to add to the first review except that this CD blew me away. As a fan of musical theatre and a yiddishophile, I absolutely loved this CD. Unfortunately, there is a very small audience for this kind of work but hopefully a foundation that is dedicated to jewish music will sponsor a staged mounting of this show.

Of the thousands of CD's I own, this has to be the best. I can't overstate the quality of his musicianship and sheer joy he communicates. Giora Feidman is the true definition of the word artist.

After reading the other reviews, I expected a really great CD and I should have listened to the sample tracks before ordering. But we have a dial-up connection and it takes forever!

So anyway, there are a lot of songs on this CD, but they aren't done in any kind of traditional style. There's this odd disco-type back beat and very strange arrangements. Imagine Donna Summer and the WASP-girl singers meet Montivani.

I would never play this CD for any of my guests, but if you like very non-traditional arrangements of Jewish standards and party music, this may be for you.
