Soul Mosaic is a really solid album front to back. This album is more soul, funk, r&b based. There are a lot more guest vocalists on this release than any of his previous work.

If you liked 'Mastered the Art' for its mix of electronica head-nod beats and hip-hop, this new one may not be for you.

If you liked his old acid jazz days, there isn't a whole lot of that on here either.

It's definitely grown on me after a few listens. He has an impeccable track record, so the faithful should definitely check it out and see where he's headed now. It's good stuff!

This one of the best jazz albums I have heard in recent years. The group is tight. John's playing is very tasteful, not overbearing, or egotistical in any way. As the leader of the group, his solos are perhaps a bit longer, but they are great. The good thing about each of the tunes is that everyone gets a solo.
Bill Stewart is very key on this album. He his drums are tuned very tight, and they resonate very well. The coordination and interdependence of all his limbs is astounding. He really swings.
Steve Swallow is very impressive as well. This is my first time hearing him. He and Stewart form a great rhythm section; they are very precise with each other.
Overall, great sound, great CD.

Turn It Out (Reissue)

This is one of my favorite albums produced by Soulive. Any fan of the Hammond B-3 organ will be amazed by the talent and style that Neal Evans brings to the organ. Having said that, the BEST song on this album is Azucar. Azucar has a real groovy beat to it, and I can't get enough of the B-3 on this song. Steppin' also has a superba beat that will get anyone out of their chair. The last song I'll speak about is So Live!. This song is 11+ minutes of pure improvisation. About to the 5 minute mark is where you can hear Neal's wailing organ; trembling over the beat. Overall, this album is a great start for anyone just getting a feel for Soulive.

Solid Sender is Sex Mob's follow up to their brilliant debut - Din of Inequity. For the uninitiated, Sex Mob is Steven Bernstein's zany downtown cover band. A free wheeling jazz quartet that has a predilection for covering pop songs, both past and present. Bernstein was also the trumpeter and musical director of John Lurie's Lounge Lizards. You can see here how both artists aesthetic sensibilities and musical sense of humor cross common paths. The final Lounge Lizards album featured a piece where all the "lizards" were yelling in unison, and here Bernstein uses a children's choir on one track.

Steady Groovin'

Not that Charlie has any "hits" but this is certainly not a collection of fan favorites. It's more a sampling of Charlie's groovin' sides for Blue Note, in the style that put the label on the map, back in the day. As such it serves as an excellent primer to this unique artist's singular style. Perfect for getting a party groovin', too. Easily 5 stars.

Hey man when i heard the frollicking-fingered-fella had a new project out I did not hesitate. I got two copies because, knowing the Money Shot's intensity and grooves, this one had to be just too sweet. I, Like the other reviewer from the UK, had this masterpiece turned up loud.This disk, which includes so many cagey veterans,was all the way live. The Tease and Wade in the Water are supperb pieces. Walter co-wrote many of these great pieces of music with the veteran laden lineup.This is a keeper and meant to be placed near your stereo at all times people. Help came from all areas including his 20th Congress Percussionist, Chucky Prada. Harvey Mason is amazing and a steadying force on the drum kit. My personal favourite is the last song on the disk. I recommend this CD to anyone who likes jazz.
It's a kind of jazz I like very much, 'cause it's fast and has a good "swing". We have a couple of jazz bands here in Brazil wich plays something like the Liquid Soul style, but I confess Liquid Soul is my favorite at the moment. This CD is always in my car's CD player, and all my friends who have listened the cd approved it as well.
