Recommended from one of my friends, i was instantly in love with this band!!! The jazzy melodies and sweet trumpet solos' keep you on your feet! All these songs include lots of styles of music so ANYONE will want this CD! I unfortunately haven't been able to see them live but im sure it would be an unforgettable experience!!

This CD is full of fresh vibes. I have enjoyed to couple of times I have listened to it. Its good jazz fusion if you like that type of music. If not you might get by the fact that the drums are the main instrument, but has good horns and guitars backing him.

I love Jimmy Herring and Alphonso Johnson, both killer players. But this album is pretty lame. They try and play a bunch of Dead ballads and it's kind of cheesy. Get "Blue Light Rain" instead, that one is sweet. Especially the "Blues for Alla Medley," face-melting.

This was the first album I bought of Galactic. I read an article about them in Bass Player Magazine, and they listed the Meters as one of their influences. I was not disappointed.

HAMPS HUMP is a great cover, different from the orginal but with a modern sound. Also QUIET PLEASE is 10 minutes of great jamming. I have heard many live versions of this song (as well as seen it performed a few times) and this CD version is the best.

All in all a quality buy if you like Booker T/Meters type music.

If, like me, you love to see Galactic live, do not buy this CD. I always felt like the Houseman was a necessary distraction for the band to keep the funk on the planet.

This album is all Houseman and no funk! That is a crime!

I don't mean that its not up to galactic funk standards, that would be one thing. I mean it is over-produced, the drums are so electronica they sound like drum machines. Are you kidding me, Stanton is funk soul of the band (the world?) and that it what they are reduced to?

Are you getting the point. Even the lyrics suck. Nothing more than repeated choruses.

I am a big JS fan, as a musician he is an incredible composer and also a great guitar player,The CD brings you an incredible horn arrangements, Larry Goldings a superb organ player and a very nice mix of artist from the pop, rhythm blues and gospel areas, also incredible solos from JS. I heard him twice live in Boston at Berklee College of Music when I was student , for all the tributes honoring the music of Ray Charles this is the best so far, don't miss this one

I was looking at CDs on Amazon of various genres of music. I stumbled upon Galactic-never heard of them before. After listening to samples, I was really impressed. The CD arrived yesterday and I've been jamming to it since. A very creative mix of funk/jazz/rock/and who knows what else. Some albums have songs that sound the same. Not this one. You want a variety, you've got it. Some songs are smoother and more jazz oriented. And others have that gritty acid rock sound. Some sound like the '70's and others sound more modern. A warning-Galactic seems to be a band that goes through changes rapidly. The samples reveal that each album has a different sound to it. Tightly arranged---yet still experimental. This reeks of the islands, sun and sand and beautiful women. Telegraphically keyboarding the dopamine, serotonin to a new frenzy of dance, and thoughtfulness. Bubblehouse the anthem to which MMW will certainly explore again and again. A great listen, a must have for those seeking a vacation from the dull and mundane.

Amazon consumers almost always dismiss and vote down negative reviews, but there needs to be some balanced feedback on "Blue Light Rain." Jazz Is Dead plays Grateful Dead style background music. This music is bland, boring and uninspiring; this group does little justice to the Grateful Dead. I'm not coming from a fanatical "I'm a Grateful zealot and nobody can do the Grateful Dead like the Dead" point of view. Far from it, I believe that a good tribute pays homage to the parent while simultaneously making a fresh interpretation. There is no innovation here, despite the talented and otherwise accomplished musicians. Indeed, Jazz is Dead is the ultimate example of how a group can be less than the sum total of its parts.
