Late Trout combines the sound of jazz with a rock spin. It may be one of the best CD's I have herd this summer. With their smooth jazz, jamband image they will please audiences of all ages. Parents, this is a CD, with no foul langueage you can listen to with your kids. I rate this a five, and I can not wait for their next CD.

I bought this CD about six years ago after seeing the band play live at the Pourhouse in Raleigh, NC. My date told me he was taking me to see a jazz band, and not being much of a jazz fan, I reluctantly agreed to go. WOW--I was totally floored by this band. I bought the CD, and to this day I make pretty much everyone who visits my house listen to it. Incredible energy, incredible talent, impossible not to dance along--irresistible to just about every music fan. I even married the guy who took me to that first show--such is the power of this music!

I have also bought "Listen!" and "The Afro Dub Sessions" which are also great, but "The Zone" is their best.

my lordie, just what is in the water down at the horvitz ranch. wayne and his merry trio of musical maestro's have blessed us (with help from uncle john zorn) with the 2nd 4+1 ensemble cd. a one off mix of the sweetest, heartfelt relaxed melodies, soulfulness, avant soundscape reflections and down low funkiness that this listener has heard in ages. julian preister is a trambone master, sheets of liquid depth, and rest of the band beautifully capture the moment. along with wayne's spar bill frisell's blues dream on nonsuch, FROM A WINDOW catches top spot on my 2001 hitlist. treat yourself. 10 stars actually. can't wait for 2002 with the new robin holcomb and the second american bandstand cd for songlines.

Brand Spankin' New

How do you know when you *really* like an album? After you hear it over and over, you start buying other CDs by the same artist. But THEN, you notice that the other CDs are not as good as the first. BUT you loved that first one so much, you just keep buying and buying the artist's work, hoping you'll eventually find another one as good as the first.

After BRAND SPANKIN' NEW, I bought all of the other Zony Mash albums, Wayne Horvitz's solo stuff, and albums by his other bands, The President and Pig Pen. None of them are quite as good as this, but most of them get very close.

I guess this album has it all. Great songs, great musicians, great sounds. If you've been looking for that classic hammond organ sound, then look no further. Great all round musicianship combined with great music that can only be described as a cocktail of high energy funk and acid jazz. Highly recommended.

It's a kind of jazz I like very much, 'cause it's fast and has a good "swing". We have a couple of jazz bands here in Brazil wich plays something like the Liquid Soul style, but I confess Liquid Soul is my favorite at the moment. This CD is always in my car's CD player, and all my friends who have listened the cd approved it as well.
