If you are a true WR Fan, skip it. It's very disappointing in two integral aspects.
One, Alex Acuna is on drums, and he's all over the place in his playing.
Two, Jaco must have pissed off the camera men, or they just didn't like all the attention he usually gets, because in the entire program I think he is shown maybe five minutes straight. You hear him for sure, but he's no where to be seen. The cameramen rather show his fingers than a waist up shot even during his solos.

There are only about 3 or 4 songs in this whole collection that I really like. I think the title of this cd is misleading. I would of liked to have been able to listen to each song before I bought this particular cd. It was a waste of money for me. Ray Charles has so many other great hits that should be on this cd collection, considering the name of it.

While it is undeniable that the catchy theme of "St. Thomas" has made Saxophone Colossus the most beloved work of Sonny Rollins, the album fairly showcases his improvisational genius. As heard on "St. Thomas," Rollins typically begins with cautions and then gradually develops into lyric lines. After the other musicians' solos, Rollins comes back with furious fast phrases before returning to the theme. Among the band members, drummer Max Roach is phenomenal, playing aggressive ad-libs while keeping the beat (especially on "Blue 7"). His interplays with Rollins are also thrilling (especially on "Strode Rode"). The variety of tunes, from calypso to Kurt Weill cover to authentic blues, shows Rollins's broad range of interests. Marc Ribot has been one of my favorite guitarists over the last few years. Wherever he turns up you can pretty much count on a quality musical project. His eclecticism is impressive, everything from Tom Wait's gutter blues to Robert Plant and Alison Krause's ethereal country blues to John Zorn's Electric Masada and their electric chaos has benefited from Ribot's remarkable guitar stylings. His own faux Cuban project, Y Los Cubanos Prostizos was stylish good fun as well, featuring an organic Downtown answer to the Buena Vista Social Club.

Tremendous disc. Diana's voice is great, the mike is close with a fantastic breathy texture to her voice. Fantastic backing group with a swing/bluesy feel - rhythmic. I think her 'Temptation' is the best version I've ever heard of this track. More please!

The Weather Channel had an excellent idea. The music of the various Jazz artists were chosen with good insight. I appreciated the transition from one track to another with a relaxing, fluid style. This is a well thought out compilation and I look forward to their next CD.

The Besties have abandoned their strengths and are now playing pretend in the deep end of the pool. Take a listen to Medeski Martin and Wood, or Garaj Mahal. In the vernacular, they are now biting some styles, and the result is WACK. As a hip hop crew, they are untouchable, as a funky jazz combo, they're a joke.
