I purchased this CD because my son had it a few years ago and I wanted a copy since he has long left. It was wonderful as I remembered it. It has a couple of dirges on it for which I don't care but in general, the music is inspirational and uplifting.

I first heard the hip hop version of "mas que nada" during the world cup in 2006. I loved the samba/hip hop mix. When you listen to the album you can hear the musical talents of Sergio Mendes. Will I Am introduces Mendes to a whole new generation.

I loved this album. The collaborations with some of today's bigger artist should satisfy anyone's hunger for something new and relatable. Plus this album made me want to look for Mendes' previous works, which are pure genuis.

When I discussed the Ric Burns documentary about the old West with an Amerindian acquaintance, I complained that the film concentrated on the Lakota, to the exclusion of other peoples. My friend answered that, as the Lakota was the best known native American culture, that was a good place to start, and the audience would then move on to learn about other parts of the story.

I suppose the same is true of the documentary by Ric's brother Ken Burns, on the history of Jazz, on which this box set is based. It is heavy on Louis Armstrong and on the Big Band sound of the Swing era - probably the Jazz best known to the general public - but light in other areas, including the many, varied strands of Jazz in the last 30 years or so. I own almost all of his music. This cd sounds as good as he was in his younger years.Some singers loose their voices as they age, but Johnny can still hit the high notes. If you are a fan , you will want to own this one.

This is the first I've bought a CD by this artist and it has been one of the regular repeating selections on my stereo since it arrived. It isn't likely to be bumped by any other artist for quite awhile, either.
