Its a question, either this record or the gorrilaz. They are playing for that same party fan base, this fits perfectly into frat party atmosphere. The thing that differentiates this from that other record is that while you can sit and listen to the gorillaz, this record makes you want to get up and dance. With the seventh track "calling" the urgency of the invitation to rumpshaking is undeniable and inevitable. You make space, move a couch, find a girl/guy, and then dance like its going out of style. This is it: Brand New Heavies' Original Flava. The raw version of the Heavies. The sound that, unfortunately, didn't lasted for too much as the other Heavies records came with a completely different production, with much more danceable hits but less organic and relaxed as this one.

I absolutely love N'Dea's unique soulful voice colour on the other BNH releases, but after listening to this one, I've found the other albums a bit over-produced, affecting the vocals as well which, at the end, might determined her approach to the music being not as natural and raw as those on Original Flava.

Some BNH gems, and a few nice instrumentals made this album a complete project, amazingly hooking from the first to the last track.

I cant say enough about how wicked this album is. I'm a caribbean new yorker and visited England in 99 when his debut was released, "Brand New Second Hand". I had heard of him before from Ninja Tune cuts, but his album was over my expectations. I have to big up my brothers in Brixton and other parts of London who showed me much love when I came. I didnt know anyone and they made my trip worth it, unlike the anglo saxon people who walk around London with their nose so high I have to wonder if their head hurts from looking down at everyone so much. Otherwise England was great, Roots Manuva is a great representative of the Black musical scene in London. DJ Cam, has had something of a tough time of it, since producing his landmark release "Mad Blunted Jazz", a Trip-Hop /Turntable/Jazz, inspired album, that brilliantly moved through slow Cerebral and Restrained Breakbeat, Hip-Hop, Trip-hop & Jazz, that it immediately won him, a whole load of New fans, as his stunning amalgamation of Druggy Beats, and Ambient moods, set him apart for other similar DJ's. And as such, he's virtually spent the remaining years trying to live up to his (exceptional) former glories. (similar in a way to DJ Shadow, with his "Entroducing" album). I have to say, if you're a fan of ADF avoid being disappointed.

They've lost their soul. ADF should consider dropping Asian since all I hear is the usual jungle, dub and rasta with some metal guitars.
