Good mix of music, however some real questionable tracks (Ragga Twins). The Jeru tracks are great. Dark Jazz still haunts me till this day.
However, this really is not a DJ Cam release. It's him spinning stuff that has influenced his music. But on the other hand, it's good ... real good.

I really wish I could have given this cd more stars because I love these guys. "Shelter" is one of my all-time favourite albums, not to mention all of the other offerings that the Heavies have given the public are really fantastic. But this cd feels forced, like they wanted to try and please the younger hip-hop crowd. The problem is, a lot of hip-hop nowadays does not require much talent to create and when the Heavies does it, it's like hearing Whitney Houston (in her prime) sing Jingle Bells. There are a few songs that still have a bit of that Heavies magic, though, especially the track "Rise." However, they have never faltered when it comes to their choice of guest vocalists. Sy Smith, N'Dea Davenport and Gina Loring are excellent. (Let us not forget ... Read More:

This is a good EP if you are already a fan of Tricky, sort of a mix between Angels With Dirty Faces and Juxtapose. The song Crazy Claws is excellent, and Tricky Vs. Lynx only has vocals by Mad Dog, but is still a good track and gives you a taste of what his live shows are like. Mission Accomplished doesn't stand out very much but Divine comedy is a new twist on the music from Money Greedy, with some very good lyrics. If you like Tricky and have most of his albums I recommend this, although it's not a good place to start if you haven't heard much of him, especially at ten dollars for only four tracks.

Bottom Line: An amazing blend of Indian, Pakistani, jazz, rock, funk, folk music, samples, and spoken word pieces.
Fun-Da-Mental are black and Asian English lads. I mention this only because it is so significant to their music and politics. Fun-Da-Mental's music is a shouted demand that we realize that racism and oppression is still very real and its perpetrators have no intention of stopping. Their message is on the trajectory of Ghandi, Malcolm X, and Bob Marley: stand up, demand your freedom.
"Oh Lord!" Is built around the samples "Repression is of the devil" and "Devil would like a word." The message is clear: racism and oppression is the evil that plagues us. This message is set to a very catchy hard-edged tune with north-African styled ... Read More:

Great sample of Leftfield, plus its got the ever so great Roots Manuva. If you like this track you should also try the Roots Manuva song "G.D.M.S.O.B." remixed by U.N.K.L.E. which is pretty dang good too. This is NOT Rap, but rather big breakbeat/leftfield style house...so don't get confused since some may thinks since it has Roots Manuva it would be hip-hop...

I like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, and well produced beats (not over-produced), so this recording lured me in like there was gold on the hook. This is a classic album, I wouldn't necessarily compare it to DJ Shadow, it's more like DJ Krushes self-titled. It's not really well-known, which perfectly compliments it's mega-crushing underground tone.
Release Date August 03, 1999
In my opinion one of the better tracks ever to come from Tricky, and definetly the best one of the album Juxtapose. However the number one reason to pick this CD up would be Brixton-based beatsquad Genaside II's remix of For Real. Amazing stuff.

Its a question, either this record or the gorrilaz. They are playing for that same party fan base, this fits perfectly into frat party atmosphere. The thing that differentiates this from that other record is that while you can sit and listen to the gorillaz, this record makes you want to get up and dance. With the seventh track "calling" the urgency of the invitation to rumpshaking is undeniable and inevitable. You make space, move a couch, find a girl/guy, and then dance like its going out of style. But thats not all, this is cleaning your room without the certain chemical substance music (starts with a m, coffee ultra we will call it) Thers even a song that your hook-singing passenger can sing in the car with 'told you so'. Its the next logical step from ... Read More:

This is it: Brand New Heavies' Original Flava. The raw version of the Heavies. The sound that, unfortunately, didn't lasted for too much as the other Heavies records came with a completely different production, with much more danceable hits but less organic and relaxed as this one.
I absolutely love N'Dea's unique soulful voice colour on the other BNH releases, but after listening to this one, I've found the other albums a bit over-produced, affecting the vocals as well which, at the end, might determined her approach to the music being not as natural and raw as those on Original Flava.
Some BNH gems, and a few nice instrumentals made this album a complete project, amazingly hooking from the first to the last track.
Release Date January 13, 2008
This album really strikes me as a major R&B achievement. Andrew Levy is a minimalist master on the bass, constructing grooves so spacious you can sit in them. N'Dea's vocals are crisp, clear and true. The title track shines through with a nice horn arrangement and a sweet lilt. The production itself is top notch...dry yet exciting and crisp. I whip this album out every few months or so and listen to it on a long drive. It's a very special effort from an amazingly tight band.
