The whole album flows amazingly well. It also has quite a few tracks that you cant find anywhere else. If you bought Vulnerable and watched the videos, heres where you can get the actual track of Receive Us. Anyways this really is a great CD, and buying turned me on to alot of great artists that i had never gotten a chance to listen to before, Rakim Allah for example. On top of that this CD also has a few songs by artists that havent put anything out before. Radanna and Liz Densmore mainly, two artists that Tricky signed, and there both great. Hopefully Tricky well get around to releasing both of their albums soon.

Great album. Few artists can make you want to shake your butt and make you think about social issues AT THE SAME TIME, thanks Apache! Oh, and Raggamuffin Girl is one of my fav songs of all time.

I enjoyed this album...but I still find "Prose Combat" and "Paradisiaque" as the best Solaar albums out there. The beats are really heavy, and I'm curious to know why he's moving in a more "Gangster Moderne" direction...away from the more lucid style of "Qui Seme le Vent"....

HIP HOP OUTSIDE THE MAINSTREAM
Spearhead, with Michael Franti, Home (5*)
Spearhead, with Michael Franti, Chocolate Supa Highway (4*)
Spearhead, with Michael Franti, Stay Human (3*)
MC Solaar, Prose Combat (5*)
MC Solaar, Le Tour de la Question (5*)
MC Solaar, Cinquieme As (Fifth Ace) (3*)
The best hip hop today is being done outside the mainstream, by Michael Franti in San Francisco and MC Solaar in France. (I'll make an exception for the music from Hustle and Flow!) I first heard Michael Franti and MNC Solaar on the compilation, Stolen Moments: Red Hot + Cool. Spearhead did "Home," the best song I've heard on living in the shadow of AIDS. MC Solaar collaborated with jazz bassist Ron Carter on "Un ... Read More:

The two previously unreleased tracks, Pop Musik and Bombing Bastards, are perfect examples of Tricky's ambient and melencholic style. Pop Musik a fun up beat song and Bombing Bastards a slower more soothing song, both show Tricky's talent and genius that he brings to the recording studio. Definatly a must for fans, and a pleaser for anyone who enjoys good misic.

This is some of the best to emerge from the Ninja stable - highly recommend this one. If you've enjoyed DJ Food prior, you'll love this. Get it now while it's still in stock. If you're unfamiliar here's a few words to help you gain an impression - jazzy (but in a warm way), cinematic (ditto), musical (i know. "musical music? wtf?"), dreamy, listenable (ie it's foreground music, not background), thoughtful. (That sounds way earnest, which is a pity because it's simply enjoyable - not just for the head-nodders, y'know?) Taking contemporary music trends of the hip-hop, trip-hop flavours, it's circa mid-late nineties stuff I think, but has aged well, and has been on medium rotation for me since I was introduced five years ago. I've since bought ... Read More:

This album is alright, starts off with more of a feel like Maxinquaye not Nearly God. but it just ddidn't live up to the hype that was around it. It's alright, but don't expect it to be as good as his first two. Get something like blow back, because at least he's experimenting with some different sounds. But here, it's just rehashing.

This CD was pretty much my introduction into the world of Solid Steel/Ninja Tune, and it is just good. I don't really know what to say. It keeps a moderately fast pace until the end where it slows down a bit. I have been getting all the songs that this CD is made up of, and it is kind of bizarre for me to hear how little acctual composition was done by DJ FOOD and DK, but the mix is phenomenal. These guys really prove that mixing songs is an art. If you want a great hip hop CD with excellent music and beats, just buy it. This is the sort of album that can completely change your perceptions of what music is and what it should be.
