The opening to the first track on the album 'Concrete Jungle' is sort of a metaphor for the groups career with Marley. They slowly gained power and notoriety then exploded for a seemingly long groove then came to a sudden stop. 'Concrete Jungle' sets the pace for the rest of the album which happens to be the groups first. This is the ying to the yang that was the bands second album Burnin.' While that album was much darker and angrier Catch A Fire is more about peace and togetherness.
Songs like the opener, along side 'Slave Driver' and 'No More Trouble' are the kind of classic social commentary Marley became known for in his lyrics. The hit 'Stir It Up' along side 'Kinky Reggae' and 'Baby We've Got A Date' show a different side ... Read More:

If you're a fan of Digweed at all, I can't see how you can go wrong with this one. The mixing is gorgeous as new tracks continuously pass in and out of the mix highlighting the best elements of each. Also, this CD seems to have more focus on sparkling melodies (from artists like Guy J and Henry Saiz who are heavily featured) than Transitions 2 & 3, so fans of Heaven Scent will likely see this as a return to form. Personally, I love all of these CD's so much that I can't compare them. However, I really thought that the mixing on Transitions 3 could not be improved upon, but Digweed shows the way forward once again, and that's why he's known as a dj's dj. Oh, and in case you're worried its not going to be techy enough for you, it gets down ... Read More:

Another quietly beautiful and reflective masterpiece from Toumani Diabate. He is by far one of the most luminous West African musicians the world has been honored to listen to. I would probably never get to listen to him live, so this is as good as it gets for me! And I'm never disappointed with his albums. At once spiritual and tender, not to be missed...because if you haven't discovered it,the kora is the instrument which is connected to our heartstrings and our mind's inflections. Savor it, find yourself in it.

"I can do the twist!" I proudly announced to my grandmother. I was 5, she 65 and it was 1965. "So you can," she proudly retorted. Maybe it was the Beatles cartoon, or, who knows, some 101 Strings K-tell "Now Sound."
Rats, I lost my hipper-than-xxxx rock critic notes. That's ONLY because I was dancing so fiendishly, though. This gets the people up on the floor. Bonus revolutionary rhetoric, too. Samples to die for.
"$10" and "Sunshowers" are the show stoppers. Lots of wow throughout. Anyway, enough of that. Back to me, Lexus in the driveway, snowperson on the front lawn, private kids' (including mine) school up the hill.
Samples to die for. Better than Moody Blues "techno" 80's "comeback." Which NO one could twist to, ... Read More:

Imagine glam-rocker Ziggy Stardust coming out of retirement twenty-five years later as The Boy from Ipanema, or as an black samba singer named Seu Jorge, singing his biggest hits unplugged and in Portuguese, and you'd have The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions. Seu Jorge is perhaps best known for his role as Pelé Dos Santos in Wes Anderson's 2004 film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, a Portuguese aquatic safety expert who entertains the rest of the crew with his David Bowie covers. The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions is a collection of Bowie songs Jorge recorded for the film soundtrack. Five of his Bowie covers were included in the original film, and seven others are available only on this album. This album will appeal to anyone who likes Bowie or bossa nova ... Read More:

Great Album! Good collection of hits you grew up to. Some songs needed more of a rock edge than acoustics like version but great collectors item
Release Date November 06, 2007
I know this album is getting all these great reviews and people with really great taste can't get enough of it, but I don't get it! Yes, the first track is amazing, but the entire rest of the album sounds nearly exactly the same. In fact, the first time I played it I thought, "Wow, what a long song," only to find out that I was already on track 6! I am sure there are subtleties that I am missing, but I think this should have been sold as an EP, or as a EP of remixes, since they all do sound like the same song. I would love for someone to show me the error of my thought processing on this one, how could so many of you be wrong?

For my taste, 'Ain't No Cure for Love" is the keeper on this CD, but I have friends who like "First We'll Take Manhattan" or "I'm Your Man" or "Tower of Song" better. I like the last three better by artists other than Leonard, and in fact, "Ain't No Cure" is even done better by Jennifer Warnes. As with most Cohen albums I've heard over 40 years, his love lyrics, happy or sad, are his strong suit. Overall, this is weaker than "Various Positions" and I recommend that one, and also his Greatest Hits stuff from the '60's and '70's, ahead of "I'm Your Man."

Okay, if I were looking for a CD of music that I enjoy I would not buy this. However, this collection of music is a purchase for my 18 month old daughter - and she LOVES it!
She especially loves hearing the children sing...yes, bad pronunciation and all. What children don't love to hear other children??? I'm not sure what another reviewer was listening to that made her feel the children on the CD's were not enjoying themselves. The children I heard seemed to be having a ball.
The entire collection of songs seem to be very upbeat and fun, without being obnoxious or overdone. Like many other reviewers' children, my daughter has memorized many of the songs. She also loves to flip through her Mother Goose book to find the Nursery Rhyme that goes ... Read More:
